Hi guys. I am new to the forums, but have been reading for months.

I have a shake between 65-70 mph and can not find it. I guess I will tell you about all of the recent maintenance/repairs.

First, back in March, I pretty mush rebuilt the front end... sway bar links, wheel bearings, springs, Bilsteins, Luke's Link, axle seals, front drive shaft and front axle U-joints, and no play in any of the tie rods.

Recently trying to find this shake, I replaced the u-joints in the rear driveshaft and had that balanced. new tires all the way around.

Well I guess I will describe the shake. It is not felt in the steering wheel, rather throughout the truck.

Any input would be appreciated as I am losing my mind tring to find this shake.

Thank you in advance:confused:

update

Well here is the update.

I have gone over everything again. to no avail, up to 90 mph on jackstands in 4wd, not a shake in the truck, all wheels running true.

Does anybody have any advice on this?

Mike

I had a shake at about 70 mph and I tried everything to find it. I just put on 6 new kelleys and took it on a trip and It was there. I have centramatic wheel balancers on it so I didnt think it was a balance problem. Took it to the Dodge dealer and he had it run on the hunter machine and two tires were way out of spec. Changed those two and the problem went away. They weren't out of balance but they must have had a belt shifted or something.

Maybe a tire is out of round, but still balanced? I'll bet an oval shaped tire would make a hell of a vibration.

Mike

I would believ tires, except that the shake was there befor and after new tires on all four corners

Thanks for the input though

if you have a centre drive shaft bearing , check it that was my problem. if its bad use oem part, tried after market and didnt work.

My tires required balancing every 2-3months. It didn't matter what type of tire. My truck also shook around 62-65mph. I finally told the local tire shop to find the problem. I grew tired of repeated trips. They found the rims were not quite round. They're slightly bent. I asked a guy in my Jeep club who know's tires about the problem. He mentioned that steel wheels including manufacturer wheels are built to tolerance. They all have a certain amount of runout. Aluminum rims are typically more perfect.

Look in TSBs under wheels and tires. Runout on factory wheels is a known problem and causes vibration. Got rid of factory wheels and problem went away for me. Be carefull with aftermarket wheels, most are made for 1/2 ton trucks total weight, even the 8 lug, and not rated for the weight potential with the cummins.

Big Mike,

You mentioned that while on jack stands the vibration was missing. While on stands there is no torque load on the rear axle,i. e. axle wrap. Try your test again, but this time apply the parking brake to simulate road torque. Your springs could be wrapping and causing the u-joints to be running out of phase. U-joint angles need to be +-1 degree. If this test doesn't duplicate problem, see if you can switch tires and wheels with some one else and see if problem goes away. Good luck.

Big mike I suffer from the same problem , check out the post I reincarnated in this forum called Death wobble repairs. I have heard so many fixes to the problem I am almost more confused now, lol. What is causing it? bad tires, throttle linkage, saggy springs, bad alignment. There is a tsb 18-29-97a that says it is throttle linkage causing it. This is only for manual trans though and mine is an auto. Good luck on the fix.

Guys, take a look at this thread. I just put a set of these on my truck and the difference that they made was remarkable. They have a 30-day money back guarantee, so if it doesn't help you aren't out anything more than maybe shipping.

I was very skeptical of them, but they work as well as the caims made on their web site. Finding a product that works as advertised is getting harder and harder these days so I just want to spread the word.

Their web site. Centramatic

I can't believe others are having this same problem. I was just about to post this same question. My '99 shakes between 65-70mph. Anything below or above that and it is fine. Just put on 4 brand new BFG A/T that were balanced... ... . maybe they need to be rechecked.

Challenger-II,

Have the balance re-checked. Watch the tire tech and make sure when he is done that you don't have weights on one side of the wheel and then another 180 degrees away. This drives me nuts. The propper way is to remove that amount from the first weight placement. (bear in mind that I am referring to the same side of a given wheel) Tires do sometimes change balance after being run for a few miles,(mostly larger AT's,MT's etc).

I would be willing to bet you have a problem with your wheels or tires, if you can take any afternoon and do some swaping with a friend that dosent have that problem, try their wheels and tires might be a pain in the butt swaping them but could save you some money and time changing parts trying to find the problem.

I have same problem however mine sounds more like gears vibrating. . and it started all of the suden, not like slowly developed.

I am going to take tires off and have them re-balanced... see if that helps. .
