I'll take a stab at it:

If you have heat, and it won't fire, then you don't have fuel.

I'd start by checking for fuel at the lift pump, use the manual bleed lever and crack the manual bleed screw. See if you can get some fuel at the point. If no, then your lift pump is bad, or no fuel is getting to the lift pump -meaning your tank is clogged, empty, a vacuum is set up to prevent fuel flow, or something like that.

If you have fuel there, ensure your filter has been swapped recently. Have a buddy crank the motor while cracking the high pressure line to one of your injectors - fuel there?

If no fuel there, I'd suspect the filter or lift pump. I doubt the injection pump would die instantly and without some warning.

Let us know how you come out!

From memory, so I could be off by a little. And I carpooled today and left mine at home so I can't go look!

Follow the line from the lift pump up to the housing where the filter is attached. That should be a 17mm (some were 14mm) line where it attaches. Called a banjo fitting I think, not sure.

So, while working the lever, leave that screw cracked a bit and see if you can flow fuel.

If you can, email me directly at nordby@channelpoint.com as I probably won't be able to directly monitor the conference today, but can take some time out and try to talk ya through it!

Jason,

What was the temperature outside when this happened? When was the last time you got fuel? Was thinking there may be something here that needs to be looked at.

Something else to consider is the electic fuel shut-off valve. This stops your engine by shutting off fuel. Mine died once and the truck just stopped. It would crank but like yours it wouldn't start. The valve is basically an electromagnet, when the ignition is turned on the valve is energized and opens allowing fuel to the pump. When you turn off the key it no longer has power and closes, shutting off the fuel and stopping the engine. If it dies the valve stays closed with or without power. Check for fuel at the injector while cranking engine. If no fuel it might be this valve. The other suggestions will tell you if you have fuel to the valve as it is located immediately in front of the injection pump. Hopes this helps!

OK WITH THE KEY ON I PULLED OFF THE PLUG ON THE SHUT OFF VALVE AND PUT IT BACK ON WHEN I DID IT MADE A CLICK LIKE I WAS TOLD IT SHOULD DO... ... PACCOOL THE RELATIVE TEMP WAS 33 DEG. F THE HEATERS KICKED IN AND I CYCLED THEM TWICE AS I DO WHEN IT'S BELOW 35. I ALSO DIDENT HAVE IT PLUGED IN ... I NEVER HAVE PLUGED HER IN YET.
THANK YOU JASON

It is usually safe to buy fuel at truck stops rather than at a hole in the wall station, if you have a choice. I know I've been stuck with poor fuel quality more than once after a fill up. I try to stick to a couple of good stations for fuel. my . 02 Scott

Hi Jason;
As Billy mentioned if you got the fuel flowing thats great, but I hope you checked that the "Water in Fuel" indicator works and turned off before you tried to start her. Moisture in the fuel will definitely do what you mentioned! Any sort of moisture present in the combustion chamber will prevent the fuel from doing its job.
As a stab in the dark try draining a few ounces of fuel into a container from the bottom of your fuel filter. Notice if there are any water drops? In the mean time if you can plug her in to warm her up might help too. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Big Rig and Peter,

That was where I was headed when I asked when he got fuel. Was wondering if he may have gotten some bad fuel. Fill up on Saturday and it won't start on Monday, could be related.
