Changing Tire settings with Smarty on Stock

Replacement ecm is back in and pickup lives again Thanks Bob and Marco :) .

I still have the same 3 codes that were there before the ecm went bad

P1693

P 1765

P 0622

none of them will clear out

P0622 could this be the alternater going bad?

P1765 could the after market BD valve body or the BD pressure lock cause this one?

what is the p1693 I think this is a common one that will not clear as It is in a lot of the code lists I read here.

All codes that show up are set in the PCM not the ECM.

P1693 = DTC detected in companion JTEC ( PCM on firewall ) module.
As long as a code is stored in the PCM this one will always show up.

P1765 could the after market BD valve body or the BD pressure lock cause this one?
Yes, that could be.

P0622 could this be the alternater going bad?
Yes, also this could be but... .
I've seen several PCM's that had internal failures ( The field is switched by a transistor in the PCM. Can and does go bad ) causing that code. I think the only way to determine what's the culprit is to swap in another alternator. If the code goes away with a new alternator, OK. If the code remains, it's most likely the PCM.
Sorry to bring another bad news to you! Hopefully it's just a stupid alternator... .

Now let's see what happened to your original ECM?
From what you've told me and based upon my past experience with the 2nd Gen ECM's. It pretty much sounds like the memory chip decided to retire while you were doing the update to the ECM. The fact that you had no WTSL at all was a clear indication of the death of your ECM.

I've repaired more ECM's with bad memory chips than what I care to remember. I've seen failed memory chips in brand new ECM's, in ECM's that failed while driving normally and the engine died, chips that failed during an update, & & & &...

Just to mention one for all. One of our memebers here had a problem with an engine stumble in his truck since brand new. Dealers always told him "could not replicate" the problem. Long story short. He send me his ECM to get it CaTCHERized. Sure enough I found the memory chip had problems. Swapped in a new one , did my CaTCHER thing to the software. No problems since then.

I guess the main question for most is : Did Smarty kill the ECM?

My answer is NO.
The memory chip failed because it had problems from the beginning. In that scenario thinking that Smarty caused the problem would be like saying that a switch killed a light bulb because the bulb burned out when it was switched on... .
Makes sense?

Marco
P. S. On second thought. Please keep in mind one important point. While it is true that I've seen a lot of ECM's with bad memory chips, that's still only an 0. 00000001% of all the ECM's on the road. No paranoia needed...
