Carson6,

I'm sure you'll get many more responses from members that have more experience with this, but from what I remember reading, and my own experience.....

I was lazy when this happened to me and just replaced the starter... . no more troubles. However, after spending some time on the board, I found that this could have been a very expensive mistake. I've since learned that the starter circuit is tied into the fuel shutdown solenoid. If I remember correctly, the shutdown solenoid could be the culprit, the solenoid relay, or just the contacts in the starter.

So, it seems I took the expensive way of taking care of the starter contacts.

Pull the starter, then go to you local rebuilder and get a new set of contacts for a few bucks, install. Problem solved, or better yet, contact fellow TDR member, Larry B at fostertruck.com and get a set of heavy duty contacts.

will it leave me stranded?

will it hurt anything ... I'm going on a short trip... dose something go out all of a sudden or am i safe for a while?

Well, you could lose the fuel shutoff solenoid that could cost $350 or so to replace. If you don't take care of the contacts, be prepared to pull the driver-side battery cable really fast, or even cut them with a set of bolt cutters to save the solenoid.

Until you get some new contacts in you will have to be prepared to pull either the + or - cable on both batteries if the starter hangs up. If the starter continues to run you can lose the shut down solenoid, the starter and some wiring, almost $600 because of $15 worth of copper.

or....

or drop it in drive romp the throttle and stall it! I thought it was a run away diesel @ first but it did not rev to hi just sounded like hell and would not shut off.

When that happened to me, I just popped open the stock air box and put my hand over the intake opening to kill the engine. Don't know what I'd do now that I have the BHAF! :D

illflem, it was so long ago that this happened to me. When I turned the key to off, cut off the air, the engine stopped along with the starter noise. Haven't had the problem since.

Here are some frequently asked questions from my website that may help you understand what is going on. It's a pretty simple job to replace the bad parts.

thank you guy's

the best 35$ i spent was on my tdr membership and the best 600$ i spent was on the pac brake... so where is the best place to get contacts?
