Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Help Starter Removal

What is the easiest way to remove the starter? I have the lower two bolts loose and the electrical connections taken off. How do you get or what is the easiest way to get to the 3rd or top bolt?

12 pt box end wrench with the longest handle you can find!

The fuel filter canister and lift pump have been removed from my truck in favor of the AirDog so I get the top bolt from the top. Once you get it loose use a gear wrench on it.

Well the starter is out and fixed and back on the truck. I am happy to say I am glad this is only a 100k mile fix and I don't have to do that for awhile. Getting to it was a chore, my larger fuel lines where right in the way.

I use a socket that will fit the bolt #10 12 point and enough extensions to use the 3/8 ratchet and GO over the top of the starter. No problem.

Starter Removal

The top bolt: I used a 30" extension and a universal before the 12 pt socket.

Just keep some pressure on it when you break it lose. Worked for me!
