I found a supplier of the contacts.

You can get them on my site here:

Also, I'm not sure but it looks like you can change the contacts without removing the starter from the engine. You may be able to just remove the three screws holding the back of the solenoid on and get at the contacts that way. I removed the starter to do mine. It's real easy anyway.

Larry,

Thanks for the source.

I'd rather order from ANYONE besides Jensen's ALternator and Starters in Logan, Utah.

Mr Jensen is NOT a nice person at all. PM me if you want to hear why I feel this way.

Thanks again Larry.

You're very welcome Ben. I went to two starter shops too, same thing, "we want to sell you a starter". Fine then, I,ll buy them from the distributor too! :)

RE: Get your contacts FLAT !

... and keep them flat. When I did mine I was very careful about making sure they were flat when I tightened things down while the starter was still on the bench. I inspected them after about a week's usage and found the contacts had moved and were only making contact on a corner -- most likely when I tightend down the cables. You can check for alignment without removing the starter by use of an inspection mirror. Moral: don't overtighten the cables (I didn't think I had).

Had the same problem on Long Island, only wanted to sell me a starter. I finally found a repair shop that sold the parts,it was my lucky day after all. The shop owner sold me two contacts that were twice as wide as the originals, said that's how they repaired them and they would last twice as long. He also showed me a pinion gear that had snapped off and had destroyed the gear ring and fly wheel housing. He also refaced the washer on the plunger for me at no charge. The whole job only took about a hour.
