Merryman,

Well, times-are-a-changin'. Back then, you might expect to live to 65 or so, and today, we can expect to live to 85. So it makes sense that we are on the wagon a few more years. Going to college is impossible without parents' help, unless you want to rack up tens of thousands of student loans.

Thanks man...

Hang in there, Kid. It'll pay off in the end. I for one can see you're not asking for "handouts".

jwdeeming

Thanks for saying that, I was really bummed about what they said.

sonorakitch,

Someone that feels my pain. I have not, and will not get a loan. I figure I owe enough on the truck (7 years), so I don't need anymore to payback.

Also yes I am set on the SPA's. If they didn't have the feature of 2 gauges in 1, plus swithable then it might be different.

Marryman,

Just think of it like this, insted of giving gifts for christmas, I want the money they would have spent insted.

Thanks to all who have added something to help. If anybody has more resons add them, time is ticking away.

Why do you need gauges?

To scare off PSDs and Duraluminum.

So if no one is convinced, do you receive $100 worth of socks from everyone?

BTW: the self-righteousness is thick on this thread:rolleyes:

Vaughn... Much of the world is just a little different than what you grew up in. I don't think you're any the poorer for it, however. A sense of entitlement was made fashionable, though, by a lot of people of your generation, some before, and very many after. We can point a lot of fingers of blame people like FDR for it.

But I'll give the kid a break. It might be family tradition to give once a year at Christmas... And if that's the case, I can see why he'd like gauges instead of a funky tie and clothes he'd never pick for himself. And certainly, he is working for what he's got.

Power Wagon,

Thank you for your comments. I feel as though I can't do anything but take a lashing from this gentleman because

1) I have never met him.

2) I must respect my elder.

Also, I know Christmas is not about giving, but it is a tradition around these parts. I have never really liked the idea of getting cloths that I would never wear, so insted this is what I would like this year.

Any last minute comments? I am going to take a shower, then print this out to show him.

Andrew

P. S. Any left over money will goto the "Power Wagon Pay It Forward Program!"

heck, I'm probably not much older than you...

I appologize for insulting you... guess I'm just a little frustrated with my financial position and jealous of yours... a college kid at SFW with a $30k truck?

it just seems to me that if you can't afford $800 in gauges, perhaps you shouldn't be modifying such an expensive truck right now and you should focus more on school...

but hey, if you can get the gauges, more power to ya...

wasn't hating on you, just stating opinion...

good luck on your exams!!!!! is the Getaway still known as the Get-a-hoe? ;)

take care,

Forrest

Sorry if I sounded a little uncareing; I do know the routine.

Not only did I do all of college with no help but my own earnings, I went on and did law school the same way. The usual schedule was-- leave home by 7 am to get to class on a bicycle, and then leave work at 11 Pm to pedal back home. Saturdays and sundays were only" normal "work days. Nope, no near new CTD to drive. The old klunker got used only when necessary --to squeese out a few more miles before it quit--and the bike got lots of work.

A different perspective on what is needed and what tough means.

You want to hear tough???

My grandfather lived on a farm growing up in Kansas, and if he didn't not shoot something, the family did not eat. I have heard about his tough times enough to know that I have it lucky.

I think that he went for the gauges. Scott's(Bigsaint) post help a lot I think.

AJB

that's fair...

my grandfather (on my mother's side) and my father (his father was a poor provider) both worked their tails off and were never given a dime...

I realize that I have it easier than they did, but I still never ask for anything I don't NEED...

but like I said... if you get a nice gift this xmas, that's cool... I shouldn't have jumped on you like that... I just assumed that you were a spoiled rich kid... if your head's on straight and your head's in the right place, that's all that matters.

take care,

Forrest <-- went to SFA in 95-96

Hey, that's great AJB. I, for one, understand your position. When I was your age, I was in the Marine Corps. making a whopping $600. 00 a month. When my enlistment ended, I start attending college and worked as much as I could, as you are. It's not easy paying for much after the cost of tuition, books, etc. on the money you make when employed part time. I was lucky enough to get on the job within a few years and that helped to ease the pain . I didn't get the truck I REALLY WANTED until I reached the ripe old age of 37.

If you do get the SPA's, you won't be disappointed in their function or quality, I have only one SPA, but love it. Drop me a PM before you start the install, I can give you instructions on how to take the elbow off of the wiring to ease the pass through the firewall.

Guess that you read the latest TDR issue on the gauges, the SPA's did well.

Scott W.

Thanks guys...

Yeah I'm kinda happy now.

Forrest,

No hard feelings. Jitterbugs is the place to pick up chicks. It's not even a challenge really. At least it doesn't look like it, don't think my girlfriend would like it too much. :D GO JACKS!!!

BigSaint,

I really think I will like the SPA's. I am going to try and get some of the Houston guys to help me during the winter break, they just don't know it yet!!!:D

No I don't have ANY gauges right now, but think I will just wait, thanks though!

My about my grandpa,?

He went to college with only about $300 dollars in his pocket, on a bus, with no idea where he was going to spend the night once he got there. He worked 2 jobs many times just to pay for college. Some of his jobs included a bowling pin setter, a bus boy at the Jayhawk Cafe(I think that's the name), and later, went in with some friends and tried to open a kinda social gathering night club kinda thing (never really understood this one).

Rich we are not, just hard working I think.
