Hey guy's,

Thanks for the help in advance.

The wife Oo. and I :{ are looking for a newer truck, I would prefer a 94-98 but the wife wants the back doors. Soooo we want the 98. 5-02 but I don't know about the block 53 problem. How do you tell if it is a 53,54,55 etc. ?

This is the wife..... :

We are adopting three little kids from Haiti and he can't afford to "experiment"heeheehee. (play)

not sure myself but have read a lot about it on here do a search for 53 and should be plenty of reading. I also remember a thread about stitching a 53 block to repair it. good luck and enjoy

There may be an easier way (maybe use a mirror) but you can look at the side of the block beneath the fuel injection pump and it is a rather large "53" cast into the side. bg

That's it!!

I guess I'll start looking at the 24 valves.

I had only one more concern in regards to the lift pump, I was thinking of installing a FASS. Do you think that would solve the problem for good or do I have to keep working on the truck every weekend like my first gen.

If you want a 2nd gen look at the 02's if the 53 blocks scare you. I haven't heard of any 02's with the 53 but I know a fella with an 01 with a 53. FWIW there are many heavily bombed 53's that are holding up. I own a 53 & wish I didn't but thats my luck. Hoping for the best. Good luck, & check for the numbers. oh yah, FASS? Hasn't been out long enough to say but anything over stock would be an improvement.
