I'm having some transmission problems with a '96 auto, 4WD. I'm hoping to find a shop that is reliable. Anyone with any info that would help out would be greatly appreciated.
 
What's the trouble with the transmission?

transmission does not shift from 2 to 3 when cold, I have to let off throttle to get it to drop into 3rd. The problem is getting worse with time. Tried adjusting kickdown cable, no help. Replaced solenoid per Bill K's suggestion, no change. Pressure @ middle port is about 60 psi both cold and warm. When it does shift, shifts from 1-2 @ 2550, 2-3 @ 2500. I have been talking some with Bill K. , but the problem is getting worse faster than I have been able to make contact with him. I just want to get things resolved/fixed.
 
Take it over to Ted Jannetty in Waterbury CT ... you won't be sorry!

Depends on how far up state you are.
Auto Wurks, and Ted Jannety are close to certain areas on NY, and I'm sure they'll fix it to your satisfaction since theyre both very knowledgeable on these trucks.
I had a trans done by Level 10 (Pat Barrett) about 8 yrs ago. I was happy with it. I think theyre in Hamburg, NJ. This was a gasser, brand "F".

98 Quad cab 4X4 2500 12 valve,5 speed,3. 54 rears, 8' bed. Michelin 275 75 16 lr-E. Boost and egt gauges but basicly stock except for a "properly adjusted" AFC. Cat in the garage. Uniden HR 2510, Texas Star 1200 amp. 63,000 Mi as of 1/27/01.

Just to give you an idea of my location, I'm in Corning. That puts me at least 4 hrs from NYC, 2 1/2 from Buffalo, and 1 hr. south of Rochester.
 
My parents used to live in Cortland. Is this too far for you?
A guy my Dad worked with had a shop on the side. I cannot vouch for his work, but if you'd like, I'll see if he can get the phone number.

I think that right now, I will end up traveling the extra distance to a shop that has a proven record. If that changes, I'll let you know. Thanks.
