Just decided decided to do a transgo shift kit and tst #5 plate at the same time. Went to road test and started off slow on acceleration and then took off left a lot of smoke. Stopped and tested again and the truck died on me. Tried starting, would crank up OK until I turned back to run and it would die out every time checked my fuses and blew number 9 in the fuse box. Tied up my fuel solenoid started fine.

Any one out there have ideas of things I can do to diagnose this thing? Thanks .

Sounds like a bad fuel shutoff solenoid or relay. Eliminate one at a time, and see if the fuse still blows. When the shutoff solenoids die, they draw a lot of current in the hold position. Seen it plenty of times, and its always an easy fix. :D

Check the relay with a voltmeter or a light. When mine went it blew the fuse inside the cab, the relay in the box under the hood, and the solenoid. A quick check for the relay is to swap it with another right above or below.

Well spent all day trying to diagnose this problem. It was a baptism by fire in auto electrical since I have never done it before. Tested out the shutoff solenoid and relay as suggested but both were still functioning fine. Turns out the problem was a short in the overdrive solenoid connection at the transmission. I guess I must have damaged it when putting in the shift kit. That in turn was blowing fuse nine which was causing the shut down. Nice to be back on the road again. :D :D :D Thanks again for the input.
