Help w/ converting the fuel shut off to manual pull

Can i get some advice or even better some pictures of how you set it up in your rig. How you mounted the cable, where you mounted it in the truck so in and so forth.

I am goin to convert from the solenoid to a pull cable using a choke cable.

At this point all advice is welcome. TIA

Where did you get the choke cable? I got one from NAPA to operate the choke on another truck and it didn't work worth a crap. It didn't operate very smoothly and took a lot of effort to get it to move. Maybe I just got a lemon (it wouldn't be the first time). If I were going to convert to a manual fuel shutoff I would have to consider a higher quality cable from an OEM farm tractor application or something similar.

Good Luck,

Danny

I seem to remember a thread some time ago about this. The writer ended up using a PTO cable because the throttle cables were not heavy enough and would bind up. Try a search on it, you may be able to find the old thread.

i have the manual in my truck i love it. i have all of the part numbers somewhere around here. i will go look and see if i can find them. you will have to get them from your local international dealer. $75 but it will last and is very durable. i have no pics.

I have an EXCELLENT PTO Cable FIX!

Sorry I didn't see this yesterday and for the delay.

I have an excellent PTO cable fix that replaces the nasty electronic shutdown solenoid. I've used it for over a year now and have NO problems what so ever. Oo.

I got the cable from AW Direct (www.awdirect.com). It cost $17 plus shipping. Their number is 1-800-243-3194. It's VERY heavy and sturdy... no brackets needed near where the cable attaches to the fuel shutdown lever. I bought the 7 foot cable and then cut it down to the smaller, correct size. (there's also a 10 foot calbe). Sorry, but I don't have the number with me at the moment. The black pull knob or handle is large and very convenient to use.

It's an AWESOME set up.

I took some pictures of the entire process of installing the cable, but haven't had the time to write an explanation of it yet for an article for the TDR to publish.

Please PM me with your e-mail and I'll forward the pictures to you. You can figure out what all is involved - it's very EASY to convert and it LOOKS great and WORKS great too.

Also, I'll include my phone number and you can call and I'll explain what to do.

Again, it's a very easy job and you'll LOVE the results - NO more fusable link, 30 amp relay, and shutdown solenoid. Pure mechanical and about 99. 99% foul proof.

PM with you e-mail, phone number, etc. and I'll get you going. :D

In the mean time, I better get that article written.

No Cheap Shortcuts. Do it right and go to International for Parts.

I went to the IH dealer, and got the cable for the P7100 pump- MADE SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS APPLICATION. I think the total for everything was like ~$70. You need to use the bracket you get with the cable and attach it to one of the AFC housing screws to hold the cable straight, should you decide to go to International to get parts. this keeps the sleeve on the cable from sliding back and forth when you want to shut the truck off or turn it on. It may cost more than some of the others on here, but why use a PTO Cable? Isn't that for a PTO?? They make a thick sturdy cable specifically for this application.

If you have any questions regarding the install or parts, PM me or call me at 210-387-4475, and I would be glad to explain in detail how to do it. Best of luck to you, and You will love it once it is done!

Does anyone by any chance have the part # for this from IH????

Thanks in advance... RyanB

We have that on our trucks at work. It's just a choke cable that they used. It pulls on a lever on the injector pump.

Anyone know this part number or what I go in asking for? I am getting very close to firing up my engine and would to have it!

Thanks... Ryan

Ryan, I dont have the number but I believe Bruce Adams posted the parts numbers and had about 8 pictures to go with it. You might try a search for the posts by Bruce. Or, I would bet if you sent him a PM he would help you.

Glad to help RyanB,

Photos and the write-up sent to RyanB's e-mail (obtained via PM).

Call if you need clarification - MST 435-563-3396 (Northern Utah). I would be glad to explain the set-up.

I have had ZERO problems with my PTO Shut Down Cable - and don't anticipate any. It's a good, clean, reliable fix.

Thanks Bruce... fast reply and I got your e-mail already!!!!!! Pretty straight forward so I don't think I will have to give you a call!

Thanks again. . RyanB

If you want, I can take my camera to work tomorrow and take some shots of the setup we run in our trucks. It's just a choke cable though.
