Hello everyone I'm new to this but I need a little help, I got an 02 with a 6spd and I would like a little more power when towing a trailer. I was looking at a van aken box or a superchips tuner any suggestions would be great. I do have a volant airbox, 4" inch exhaust, and westech egt, boost, and fuel gauges. Thanks

I can't speak about the later boxes or downloaders, but the addition of even an Edge EZ (used ones are pretty cheap now in the classifieds) with its accompanying boost elbow makes a noticeable difference. When I was running stock injectors, adding the EZ really fattened up the midrange and dropped maximum pre-turbo EGTs from 1300 degF to 1100 degF due to injection timing advance and (primarily) additional mass airflow that results from the higher boost pressure.

I got one word..... "Smarty" You may look into a set of injectors too. I had a Superchips tuner for a while & it don't even start to compare to the Smarty... . especially when you send Smarty some more fuel. The reason Smarty is so popular with towrigs is because it gives the power down low to get the trailer rollin..... Check it out www.wagnerandassociates.biz

If your wanting to stay out of the bombing sickness and want just a little more oomph for towing and maybe a little more milage, the ez or superchips would be all right. you wont have too much power that your going to need all other upgrades to handle the power. I ran a superchip when I bought my truck and I pulled my buddys 77 chevy one ton 4x4 to a mud bog, about 60 miles either way, and the truck in tow barely felt there. it kept 80mph no problem and no egt problems with the stock lil hy9.

I too am going say go with smarty. I do not know where you are located, but there must be some one near you that has one. A TDR member near you might let you down load the catcher software so you can see how you like it.

Smarty is the best place to start after gauges (notice it says start :D you will have to have unbelievable willpower to stop there) good luck ... George

I'm assuming the Smarty provides a boost-fooling function, but in addition be sure to address the boost elbow or you won't get the EGT reduction and additional air to burn the added fuel that's provided.
