I only have 3000 miles under my belt as a diesel owner and need some help. I've been looking at some posts and have some questions. First off, what is the turbo silencer ring and the reason for removing it? Also, it is incredible the amount of aftermarket items available to increase power. I have replaced the stock air filter with a K&N. The exhaust is next and then I am leaning toward the EZ Egde. My truck is an automatic and I am concerned about damaging it. Is this concern valid? Thanks in advance for all help I recieve. ;)

Welcome!

Welcome, newbee.

First of all, you are going to regret becoming a member!!:D You'll start to wonder why you now have 16 credit cards maxed out. LOL.

First, you'll hear a lot of guys tell you to forget the EZ and go to the Edge Comp. I would have, but the Comp wasn't out yet when I got my EZ. The Comp is a major fueling box with the features of the EZ included. If you want just a little umph, get the EZ. It won't be too harmful to your slushbox (auto). But, if you are like the rest of us, you'll be itching for more power real soon. In that case, you might as well go with the Comp, as you can leave it on the lower settings until you get your slushbox upgraded. Personally, if I had the auto (I did with my Y2k truck), I would get it upgraded even if I didn't upgrade the power).

Good luck!

Can only say one thing. Everyone here is a big help to me and many others so hang in there you wioll find your answers.

If you remove you intake hose from the air box to the turbo inlet you will find a thin piece of metal in a conical shape directing air flow to the turbo vanes. If you look and feel the edge that is near you around the conical shaped peice of metal you will find a gap that is where you need to start to remove the ring. it is a bear the first time but it gets better.

I only saw a noise difference. Not that it was a bad thing! LOL

If you want even more noises you can go with a K&N RE-0880 of equvalent filter.

If you are going to a bow I would recomend Edge due to the simplicity of the instalation and instruction.

See Sig I and not through yet!

Regarding the silencer ring, it's only purpose in life is to subdue the turbo whistle, no peformance change with or without. There have been some cautionary posts regarding putting the ring back in once it's out as the snap ring can come out a bit easier the second time - even by itself. I took mine out and left it out prior to getting the HX-40 and loved the sound, but it's not for everybody - especially S. O. 's ;) Now the Comp and other "major" fueling boxes like it are great for power but need some consideration first. Most importantly (maybe) is that these boxes tap the wire going to the injector pump solenoid and basically wrest control of it from the ECM. To do this, they pierce the wire which leaves a mark, even when removed that Dodge mechanics are trained to look for when performing warranty work and will likely void the engine/power train warranty if found. Now the other threat is real as well, and that is the powertrain is not bullet proof, even with the DTT upgrades and can and do fail in direct proportion to the power run through them. I'm definitely not trying to scare anyone away from the big horsepower, but it has to be taken in measure to one's tolerance to be their own warranty station and buying expensive parts. Personally, I feel like a teenager everytime I get behind the wheel - and as Visa has so eloquently put it - the moments are priceless (make that expensive :D :D) Enjoy!!

More Power

ckrajewski; I'm also new here and to this diesel thing, my truck is still stock aside from 4" exhaust and appearance items. Best advice/suggestion, don't jump into it right away, go to local tdr meetings as much as you can and drive someone's truck, you'll get better ideas of what you want to do. Also keep in mind that what is nice or good to some it isn't for others, every one has their own taste and ideas. I was almost sold on edge ez and actually drove trucks with it, well I just came back from a dyno show and saw what the edge comp can do and now just puts me into a different ball game. What ever you decide take you're time and do a lot of research, this is an excellent site and everyone is willing to help, good luck and enjoy.

 you are heading into the ABYSS my friend ...

cjkraj , read over work2much's post a few times , pretty much anything you do to increase power will cause dodge to void your powertrain warranty . with this is mind you either be a stand up guy ( did i just say that  ) and pay to fix any drivetrain problems that are caused by your HP increases , or be sneaky ( yes i said that  ) and take your chances which could lead to many headaches .

any company that tells you that you can increase the power output of your engine and still have it and the components connected to it covered by chrysler or any other warranty co is blowing smoke and is only interested in your money , once you have a problem its your problem , not theirs .

choose your HP mods wisely , search the site , call the manufacturers . first upgrade would be your transmission ... this one will be your hardest decision , there are many TC's available , all make claims of being the best , decide wisely , try to meet up with members and drive the different products , the test drive is all it takes ... dodge will not cover a new TC and the VB changes , but doing these upgrades will go along way toward you not having a transmission related failure , if i had to do it again i would have done the trans first , then maybe my HP performance goals would have been different ... . nawww , who am i kidding ...

my name is john and i'm a bombaholic , its been 1 day since i dynoed my ram at 409. 6 RWHP ... help me !!!!!!

Welcome aboard, this is a great site to learn alot AND have other members help you use your credit cards.

First - add your sig. tell us what your rig is

Second - do you do any towing or hauling

IMHO your auto is the weakest link... ... ... ... goodbye!

1 I would first add gauges, get a baseline

2 decide what you wnat your truck to do, be honest with yourself

3 make additional upgrades based on what you want.

4 is your warranty important to you. ie: you will be your own warranty station

5 hook up with fellow members and try what they have, driving is believing

As above, there are alot of different products out there. Choose wisely. It can get very expensive buying one set of injectors only to find out that you want bigger ones.
