Well I think I'm postponeing putting a 5. 9 Cummins in my '68 M715, I'm having a friend check out a '95 2500HD 4x4 club cab 5speed, long bed, 4. 10 and under 90k miles price is ~$16k

Sounds like its a work truck that has been well maintained and serviced, new ball joints, starter, recent tires, does lack AC, but I can live without that

What should I look out for?

Might be my first diesel truck:)

As you can tell from the overwhelming responses, not much.

The only potential problems would be the 5th gear nut and the KDP. Check to see that the intake duct from the air cleaner to the turbo is clean inside and look at the oil and antifreeze to make sure no odd colors or odors there, good luck.

Sounds like the truck your friend is checking out probably has most of the typical maintenance done to it. Give it a good look, many owners (non on this site!) aren't aware of problems when they go to sell their trucks and think you might be trying to BS them when you do find something.

I have two '95s with over 200k combined miles on them. The only problems have been the infamous fraying throttle cable and cracking fuel lines. Other than that it's just regular maintenance and front brake pads. If the truck has been maintained go for it, the price seems very good.

I am from California and I buy and sell diesels. I am not sure of the rust issues facing NY but if that is not a concern, the items brought up by the other posts are considered, and any of the normal used vehicle checks are passed you have found a very good deal. Once you discover the many plusses to owning a diesel you will find you have made a great decision.
