Recommendations for tool box?

I am thinking of installing an auxiliary transmission for towing. What are others using and why.

I have the US GEAR under drive. It works great, especially pulling in the mountains. I am considering turning it into an overdrive unit. I still run the 245's because of height problems with my 5th wheel, and would like to drove my RPM,s at 70 & 75 mph. The unit works grerat, giving you about a 500 rpm split.

I have the US gear overdrive unit. My truck is a manual with 33¡± tires and 3. 54 gearing. The only dislike that I have is for the noise associated with it. The unit is fine and quiet at low rpm but in 4th and 5th over and at 65 mph and above it gets too noisy for me. Funny I have been thinking of making mine a under drive, go figure. I have had two units to date on my truck with noise from both. The install was pretty easy and the outcome is worth the effort, just don¡¯t expect the overdrive to be as silent as the nv4500. The unit works nice in the mountains with an exhaust brake.
 
I agree with DBR mine makes some noise at 60 to 65mph in 5th after that not to bad. I have put some in that don't make any noise not sure why. I have had 2 in mine both the same. All in all very happy!! Mine is OD and I split most gears at one time or another, About 50 50 accel and decel. Makes the exhaust brake work real good.

I have the US Gear overdrive with a 3:54 lsd. The reason for this particular unit I was pulling RV's for hire. With a 5 speed I could pull a load real good in 4th over at around 70mph and 2200 rpm. However half the time I was deadheading so I could go to double over at 80mph and 1900rpm. I never found out what top speed might be.

I have a GearVendor. It is quiet, shifts nice. But cannot be used in 4 wheel drive. It mounts behind the transfer case, the US mounts between the trans and the transfer, therefore there is less modifications to install the GearVendor. I wouldn't be without it. #ad
75 mph at 2000 rpm.

I do not know about the US Gear, but the GearVendor has a set up for autos that shifts automatically or with a button on the floor.

I got the Gear Venders installed in my 94 auto and my only regret is that you can't use your E-Break with the splitter engaged. If you have an auto I would recommend the Gear Vender only because you can shift that thing at full throttle. If you have a 5 of 6 speed I would recommend the US Gear.
