Killed a Maxipad!

Ford question

My dad has a 93 7. 3 that we have been having problems with for about three months. Truck runs smooth overall but when decelerating it dies. If you baby it you can keep it running. Runs fine at speed. We have replaced two pumps, had the tanks pulled and flushed and replaced the pump again after the flush. Problem went away for less than 3000 miles after the round of flushing and the new pump. Yesterday we changed the fuel filter to find that it was full of dirt or rust. He has varied where he purchases fuel so we are at wits end as to how to solve this problem. Any help or suggestion would be appreciated as would a link to a 7. 3 site.

Thanks

a lot of us Ford guys have gone to electric lift pumps instead of the mechanical ones, I recommend the generic el-cheapo electric you can get at Autozone or Napa for less than $40, bypass your mechanical pump, buy fuel at quality places and keep those filters changed. You might also want to look at the fuel injector return lines and also make sure that your water separator is working right.

good luck

I suppose I'll chime in on this one... :D

When you say 'pumps' are you talking injection or supply?

From what you've described so far, it sounds like a bad supply pump... I'd definitely pull those fuel tanks again if you are getting nasty rusty crap in the separator.

How is the rig starting after sitting for a few hours?

Thanks for the replies, the pumps were reman. injection pumps. Truck starts and idles well dies only in the decel. condition.
