Archived Help with a 99

Truck is a 1999 dodge 3500 regular cab long bed 4x4 5 speed. it has three codes 1693, 1689, 0230. Also truck will die when you pull out the head light switch and if you leave the light switch on it will crank but not start. Please help, as any info would be great to point me in the correct direction.

Codes: 0230 is fuel transfer pump circuit out of range? 1689 is ECM communications with injection pump. 1693 is related to ECM fault code being set? Not much expertise in this line but the light switch thing to me indicates that you might have a faulty ground somewhere in the system or a bad connection. I wouild start with the battery cables and check any ground straps/wire connections you can find between the engine and chassis, the dash etc. Also check the connections to the ECM. Good luck, b

I'm with B. G. just because a cable looks good it may not be

I agree with the B. G. Smith and p-Bar but I also would clean the ECM and VP44 connectors with a lubricating contact cleaner let it sit for a few minutes than spray with contact cleaner that dries.
