Mort,

I had my AC system charged 3 months ago, it was putting out VERY cold air. I too expected to find a broken door but all are fine! Except that I ended up with one unused dash screw, the AC is working great again, NTF. I am following a couple of RBATTLE's suggestions, (1) not changing the vent door setting, just leave everything as it is, and (2) shut the AC off before killing the engine to reduce stress on the AC clutch.

It's ALSO a good idea to run the fans with a/c off before killing the motor in order to dry out the moisture that running the a/c creates in the vent system-- less chance for mold to grow in the system.

Seafish,

Your making this tough... now, I have to:

1) Don't touch the vent setting

2) Turn off the AC before shutiing off the engine

3) Run the vent fans after turning off the AC and before shutting down the engine (I guess I'll do this while I'm waiting for the exhaust temp to get down to 300*... . )

Had the truck for 6 years and now I have a 'shutdown checklist'!

does anyone have a procedure for pulling the dash on an 06? i have a broken door over the blower and need to replace it but haven't been able to get the dash out... thanks, Tim

The compressor determines low/high pressure same as the expansion tube/valve. The evaporator is located inside the cab and the condenser is in front of the radiator which is on the high side of the system. The accumulator (round black tank next to fire wall is located in the low pressure side of the system. Buy yourself a manifold guage set for R134a at Harbor Freight so you can read both high and low side reading for an accurate charge. Pressure reading at ambient 90deg. F = 30-40 psi on low side and 250 to 300 psi on high side. Note when adding refigerant, alway purge the air from the low side lines that will be used to add the refigerant. Air is a non-condensible and will degrade the performance of the system. Hope this helps.
