hi, guys

i need help with my dual bypass install.

specifically: there are four brass fittings, two which go to the block adapter and two which go to the filter mount. now i know which ends face the hoses. but which goes to which? do the fittings with the o-rings and the short (three or four threads) end go to the filter mount and the one with the longer threads go into the block adapter?

reason i'm askin' is the ones with the longer threads don't seem to want to go into the block adapter very far or very easily. how far should they go in? it's a cast aluminum piece and easy to screw up i figure.

also... . it's not a situation i would usually put loctite. doesn't seem to be a threat of the adaptors backing out. should i use loctite anyway? (it's included in the kit).

thanks in advance... .

Why are you messing w/the block adapter? If you thought it out correctly before you ordered the fittings, you need three elbow fittings; two for the filter, 1 for the output @ the oil filter housing( @ the top you'll see a fitting that can be removed that is oil pressure ) and 1 swivel elbow that will go to the oil filler cap. I removed my stock oil filler cap and bought one that would fit or you can get another one from you dealer, so I could drill a hole in the top of if for the output from the bypass filter. I mounted the bypass filter to an aluminum plate w/another U shaped piece of aluminum attached to it into the brackets that hold the battery on the passengers side. NOW if you can make any sense from that GOOD LUCK!! But mine works fine. Took me about a month to figure it out. It looks almost like the install in one of the last couple of issues except mine is mounted vertically within the stock battery clamps.

americana, the fittings with the O-rings are used on the filter adapter. The fittings with the longer threads (pipe threads) install in the block adapter. This can be seen in the Dual Remote Bypass installation instructions. If the fittings will not thread into the block adapter far enough you will need to tap the threads deeper or have Amsoil replace the block adapter. NPT (National Pipe Thread) threads are tapered, meaning, the deeper the male threads are screwed into the NPT female threaded bore the tighter the "seal" becomes. Teflon thread sealing "tape" or pipe dope (thread sealing compound) is required for use with these kinds of threads for thread sealing integrity.

I believe Amsoil provides torque specifications for both the O-ring and NPT fittings.

Another option, TDR member ("CPFF" on this BB) sells a very high quality billet aluminum block adapter that utilizes the O-ring fittings at this location as well. After you've seen both block adapters you absolutely won't even consider the use of the Amsoil cast aluminum piece... the billet piece is superior in every way.

Well, you didn't include your e-mail address so I can't send pictures of my installation.

I think they would answer most of your questions.

As for the loctite... I didn't use it, and I'm not worried. But to each his own.
