Archived Help with changing dually tire!

I cant seem to figure out how to remove the rear cap on my 05 dually... I see the notch but cant get the cap to come off... . is there some kind of special tool that is needed?? thanks, Garth

Theoretically, you can use the end of the OEM jack handle to pull the cap, i. e. the flattened end with sort of a 90* bump on the end. Personally, I have an old screw driver that was heated and bent 90* for hooking those pups. I didn't custom make this tool for this application, instead it is just one of those handy miscellaneous tools in the old tool box. Perhaps others have optional stellar ideas

I've had better luck popping the chrome trim ring off first, then popping the center cap off.

I solved that problem on my 96 3500 - bought a set of Alcoa's!



The second gen trucks had a tool for this that was part of the lowering mechanism tools for the spare tire.

rear wheel cover removal

I removed the caps once with the tool under the seat. They won't come off again real soon; I didn't replace them. I think the lug nuts look far better than the cover ever did.
