I HOPE mine was simply the tap screw. I pulled the cover this morning and greased the screw and retightened everything. All was better, so I drove 500 miles TODAY:rolleyes: and it's still good.

Mine didn't set a code or light. It just acted like it wasn't getting "full enrichment" and did the HuckaBuck at WFO or close to it.

I'll give it a few more days.

Still surging at about 2600 rpm

Checked connections and everythings seems OK. Tightened the screw on the pump another half turn and no change. Can you tighten this screw too far? Maybe I should just pierce the wire and if that doesn't fix it change boxes.

Any new ideas. Problem is only on level 2 thru 5.

Thanks,

TC

Mine is still AOK. It was obvious that the problem was when mucho fuel was requested. The connection was unable to support the signal, resulting in HUCK-A-BUCK and a jumping boost gauge under heavy acceleration.

YES you can screw the wire in too far. I think it'll ground out and fry the whole mess. Don't try it.

My "miss" was throughout the RPM range--only depended on throttle position. Doesn't sound like your "2600" deal. Of course the UFM allows stock defueling at 2700 unless it's a Race version AND it's set on 5X5.

Oh, HI Yall.

I just got done with this same problem

It took getting rid of the cover and getting a pm grabber ( just tap the wire , yer warranty is gone)

got a new edge comp ( i had an old ufm and I dont like "attitude")( edge told me to update)

and I had to have cummins re flash my ecm (not dodge)

thats what I did and it seemed to work

I still have the slightest hint of a stumble but nothing like before

and no more check engine lights

I'm going to remove the cover and tap the wire. Don't want to keep tweeking the screw in and take a chance of ruining the pump.

Thanks for the response guys.

Let me ask a simple pointed question:

Who has had problems with their COMP/DDUFM among those who did NOT use the BC pump cover?

I might be wrong, but I have been led to believe that the BC is designed specifically to allow a person to tap the wire, but do it inside the pump where it won't be seen.

Your ethics are your business, but if you are going to tap the wire, then tap tha dang thing. Don't try to have your warrantee and violate it too.

The mantra" "I am my own warrantee station" means you don't need to cost and the hassle of the BC cover.

Just tap the thing already. If/when you do, you have my admiration if you do it openly and not try to hide it. I lack the courage (or insanity) to tap my wire yet, but I am getting there.

Yep you ARE wrong. I bought the pump cover because "scotch-lok" connecters are crap. I am from the soldier it school (racing and radioing). I thought the BC Cover might be a better, more secure electrical connection. Turns out that it ain't, but mine is working now-only had to tweak it once.

When I redo it, I will cut, splice, and soldier it.

TO HECK with warrantees. It's hard to kill a Cummins and you deserve to buy one if you do. Besides who wants those FCUKING MONKEYS under your hood?

72,000 pump wire tapped since 58k and clutch is screaming.

Thanks for the correction. Turns out I had you and your situation all wrong.

IS the BC cover the best way to connect to the wire? What about the pin prick type connectors like the TST grabber? Does anyone have a pic of a scotch-lok, so I know what to avoid?

Wade, what's your opinion on tapping the wire on an '02? I have heard of no inj pump failures after tapping the wire on the 02s. They say that if it goes, it was gonna go anyway.

Again, my apologies for mischaracterizing your intentions.

I think I will solder it too (I do everything else that way)

BC cover not the problem

Well the problem is now obviously with the UFM. I plugged in a box on loan from DEZLPWR and it functioned as it shouldOo. Oo.

I plugged my UFM back in, set it on level 2 and as soon as I put my foot in it, I got surge, check engine light and :(

I guess I'll check with DD and see if they will do anything for me.

I had the same problem

but I think it was because of a dealer who reflashed my ecm with the ufm hooked up and screwed everything up

I also learned that I didnt have power at start up

I was setting codes

and stumbling at 50 to 60 mph at very light acceleration

sent ufm to DD and they sent it back and said it was ok

I really dont know what they did to test it , I think all they could do is plug it in to their pickup and drive it

I know they didnt send it to edge because I had it back within the week I sent it

they didnt seem too enthused about helping me out with this problem

Sure , I can understand that it was probably caused by the dealer and myself

I should have unhooked the ufm just like it sais in the directions but I didnt and man did I pay

Im not trying to rip on DD

I think they make some excellent products, Im even going to spend more loot with them , but ... ...

I dont know everything, but a very good source at edge told me to look at the sticker on the back

some of the first versions had some problems

I had one of the first versions so I got a new edge comp

I would go right to the source of the box (edge) and get their opinion as well

good luck

(i did like the ufm just as well, it didnt smoke as much)

Alan, I remember your truck. Your dealer reflashed it and broke connection mid-way or something. You sent the box in and we ran it for a few hours on Marks truck... no issues.

I even got you the phone number of a Cummins tech to contact to get your ECM reflashed properly. I believe you did that and still had a problem.

Thank you Keith,

I was going to call you next. I wanted to check out all other options first. Don't like to cry wolf every time something doesn't seem right.

I have to be honest with you, I purchased the UFM from another member in January of this year.

I will send it to you to check out.

Thanks again,

Terry Course

Thats good to know!

I get a slight surge/stumble at WOT - FP is good, 8psi or so. . Pump Wire is hooked up via pin prick connector. Is this normal? It still goes like stink!

Thank you Keith

Sent UFM to DD and they are sending me a new one.

I decided I had better upgrade to the Drag version.

Don't want to get left in the dust, I mean smoke:p
