Hello

I put on a 10 plate (centered), housing full forward, BHAF, stock exhaust, and now gauges. Great power and minimal smoke with regular driving, 34 pounds boost. Problem is that I can make 1300+ degrees if I stay in it for a just a few seconds. Without fooling with the turbo, what do I do to get this down, move the AFC back a little, or pull the plate back a little, or both? Also, what would a four inch exhaust do for me. I guess I am being lazy, but I really don't want all the trial and error as I am sure someone has already toyed enough to know what to do. I am not power crazy and I do want to be safe with the motor.

Also, which Southbend clutch would be best for occasional towing and still easy on the knee. Right now I can slip easily in 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

Thanks

My .02 cents

The stock exhaust is most likely the biggest culprit here. I would highly recommend 4" exhaust with an Arrow resonator this will help with EGT's big time. The 10 plate will get hot. You will have to experiment with the position, back it off a little with the 4" pipe and I think you will be very happy. I also recommend southbend CON-O clutch. very smooth. and get your flywheel turned and faced. I also highly recommend and AFE or comparable intake. I switched from drop in to AFE and it made a WORLD of difference. Oo.

Thanks for the quick reply. Thats what I was wondering. I may leave as is for now and try to get the exhaust sooner rather than later and just baby it for a little longer.

So go with the Con O clutch?

Could someone enlighten me on the flywheel? What is the updated flywheel as seen on Piers site? I adds $200 to the cost. Is it needed? I have 89K on the truck and am pretty ignorant about the clutch if I do say so myself. Would like to know more before going to the shop for replacement.

The Con O is a direct drop in replacement 12. 25'' good for 400 HP/900 ft/lbs. The Con OFE and FE require the updated flywheel because they are 13'' clutches. IMO if you plan on any more upgrades I'd go with the con FE because right now you're already at around 300 HP, 350 with the plate full furward. But if you are happy with the power you have than the Con O is the economical choice.

And get a 4'' exhuast system on there! Any system off ebay is good, I got mine for $250.

I have the same truck as yourself with like-wise mods (I have gone somewhat further - That Piers dyno day should not be allowed :-laf ).

As NHays stated, and I agree, the exhaust is the likely culprit in your situation. I tow an 8,000lb TT and never go over 1150* even on the steephills, and I do like to tow fast (within the legal limits of course ;) )

I installed the 13" CON OFE clutch in my truck (also from Piers) and am very pleased with its performance and holding power. I would definetly recommend it to any one looking to upgrade.

Regards, HP

be leary of ebay "junk" i just got done removing someones 4" cause they were upgrading to 5" but i would go with the con ofe or fe they are good clutches and also leaves you more room for bombing with out upgradeing the clutch pm me if your intrested in that 4" i just took off but good luck and when i first installed my #10 my clutch didnt hold up too well either
