Have to replace my vacum pump for my exhaust brake after 51000 miles. Are there any tricks or secrets to getting it done it looks very simple. But every time I think something is it turns into a mess. By the way bought my pump from Cummins West for 204. 00 just for grins I called the dealer and about sh** the cost was 980. 00.

Someone had a post awhile back that possibly a Ford vacume pump for a late 80's diesel truck or van might be interchangeable on the vacume pod and that it was available as a reman from Ford. I had to replace mine and can relate on the difference in cost between Mopar and Cummins. When I get a chance I will investigate if the Ford one can be used. This will be a big plus as its even less money than the Cummins pump.

Thanks for the help, All done now took awhile but done. Now if there was a way to rebuild the one I just took off to replace the other when it breaks

The diaphram part of the pump from the Ford will work. However, we tried this twice on a customers '03 only to end up buying a new one from Cummins.
