I'm installing an oil bypass filter on my 05 and need some advice. Picking up an oil supply is easy but I'm not sure where to plumb in the return. My ford had a pipe plug in the side of the block just above the oil pan that was perfect for the return but I can't find anything on the cummins. Where is everyone tying that line in? Thanks in advance. Jeff

Jay,

Whose system are you going to run??

I usually install a Baldwin filter and filter mount and make up the needed aeroquip teflon stainless lines to fit. The lines are the most expensive part of the installation. I've always run a baldwin bypass filter and amsoil 5w30HDD in my Ford and my oil samples come back from Blackstone indicating less than half the national average for wear particles.

On the turbo side of the engine block are a couple of small plugs that look like freeze plugs. They come out on an angle, as I recall.

Cummins makes a nipple with an o-ring that fits into the hole & can be used a a drain.

Someone on the 2nd Gen. 24 Valve forum installed a "Spinner" bypass system & used that method for the drain. He gave an excellent description of how to do this & where & what parts to get. Might do a search on "Spinner".

Hope this helps.

Here is a good place to return the oil from the by-pass.
