Competition Help with pulling tire choice

Well guys, sold off my 37" Swamper SSRs this past weekend and am now in the hunt for a more "realistic" sled pulling tire I can put on the dually. Those 37s would have been just way too heavy for me to pull with and now I can have the engine put that power to the sled and not to turning those massive meats.

Anyway, what tire should I go with? I have been told that the BFG all-terrain is a very popular choice along with some other name brand all-terrains. But during my search I have seen some good deals that I can get on the BFG mud-terrains from certain places. Is that tire going to be a little too aggresive for pulling or would I be better off going with the all-terrains?? I don't plan on going any larger than a 35" and no smaller than a 33". The BFG mud-terrains that I found are in size 315/75R16 and I believe that is very equivalent to a 34" tall tire. I don't have to worry about how wide the tires are as I am probably still going to run my rear spacer, and I want the widest I can go for more surface area and bite to the ground. So what is the popular choice among you fellow pullers?

315/75/16 is much closer to a 35" tire.

I would look into 33's as they are a pretty popular choice, also I broke a LOT of parts running 35s.

Courser CT's in the rear and some 33 12. 50 MTRs up front seem to work well.

I run proComp MT's, they look just like BFG M't, but they have siping across the lugs. I don't pull alot, so that might not have been a great tire, but alot of the guys I saw that pulled alot mostly had Baja Claws or Procomp Xterrains. I haven't gone to any pulls out of my area, but the guys that seemed to do the best had those tires. Just my 2 cents... .

Thanks guys, I went ahead and ordered up my tires today. I got the 255/85R16 BFG Mud Terrains and for an awesome price too... . just under $1K for 6 of them. Oo. The actual height of the tires is just a tad over 33" and the width should be just right. I was second guessing the 315s as that width is a little much for me and who knows if they would have cleared each other in the rear even with my 2" spacer. I think I will be very happy with my choice, not too aggresive and just enough tire to keep me under 8K lbs. Those 37s helped put the truck over 8500lbs and now with the tool box removed, fuel tank only 1/8 to 1/4 full and rear bench seat taken out I should be hopefully right around 7900-8K lbs. We'll see... ...

Front weight bracket is going to be fabbed up in the next month or maybe sooner whenever I can get a free weekend away from the wife and kids.

Well, here are some pics of my new meats for the sled track.

Just need to a few little welding things done in a couple weeks from now and the red puller is ready.



Yeah, I know I need to do something about the rear wheel spacer. :-laf Just got to re-mount those two outer rears onto a Dodge style wheel and then I can put the spacer away for the Boggers.
