2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission help with seat heaters

Does anyone have a wiring diagram of the seat heaters for a 2001. I need to figure out what goes to the switches and what goes to the seats. I am trying to wire the OEM leather heated seats into my truck that came without the leather. I love the leather, but the wife keeps getting on me about the Minnesota morning chill on the rear. Any help would be great...

I need to do the same with my truck. Has anyone done this? The wiring diagram wasn't much help but I don't recall why. Maybe the seat heaters or tied in to one of the other controls???

I've been using it every morning for the past several weeks and it works great. Buns and lower back are roasty-toasty for the drive to work. I located the switch down on the side of the seat with the power seat switches. But I need to run an indicator light to somewhere on the dash to indicate when it is on when I accidently bump the switch on in the summer.

I've looked at the heaters from Rostra and they look pretty slick. Sounds like you like yours a lot. Is the switch that comes with it simply an on-off? Seems like it would be a better setup if it were a momentary switch that turned it on when pressed and then released when pressed again, or when it lost power when the truck was shut down to prevent it being left on inadvertantly. From the kit you installed do you think that would be hard to set up with a relay and a momentary switch?

The switch is a 3 position rocker with the center position being "off". The control box for the heating pads has a wire exposed. With the wire left intact, one position of the switch turns on both the bottom and back pads. The other position turns on just one pad (bottom, I think, though I'm sure you could make it be the back).



If you clip the wire, the switch turns on both pads in both positions, but it causes it to work as high/low settings. I generally run mine in low.



The wiring diagram instructs you to hook up to a switched source so you don't accidently drain your batteries.

A friend of mine has a '01. 5 2500 with the 360 gasser and a 5-speed. The thing he doesn't like about the factory heated seats is when he accelerates from a stop and the engine drops below idle for a split second the seats automagically turn off because there's a safety feature that won't let the seats run your battery down if the truck's off. Very irritating but shouldn't be a problem with the diesel option because it doesn't bog when taking off in second...

Your right, mine have never shut off unless I turn them off.
