I hate to even ask the question, but it is for a buddy... what type of bolt head is on the three starter bolts? I would know if I looked, but its not my truck and I haven't had time to get to his place and crawl under it. He said they were a multi point design. His description doesn't match a torx head.

He also didn't have the right tools either. Sounds like its a 10mm socket accessable with a 3/8" drive rachet with an extension (maybe a swivel?).

Thanks for the help.

It's a 10mm 12 point screw head. I don't think you can use a socket on all three of them. I use a box end wrench. If the starter has never been taken off the screws will be REALLY tight. I had to use a bottle jack and a rod to push on the wrench to break the top one loose. A cheater bar worked to get the bottom two loose.

I had to use one 10mm box-end wrench with a 14mm open end wrench together for enough leverage to break mine loose. The top one was the worst. Wasn't able to pull straight with my ratchet so it kept coming off. Got it though.

Thanks guys. He also said that they felt real tight. I'll pass along the info and tools so he can get his contacts replaced. In a couple of weeks we're going to tackle the KDP. Yee haw!

I had to wrap a rag around the wrench handle because I was pushing so hard it was hurting the palm of my hand. Bent the wrench, but the bolt came out.

I just did my starter contacts about 3 weeks ago.

The 3 bolts are 10mm and have a 12-point head.

I used a 10 mm wrench and banged on it with a hammer!

Yes, they are hard to remove, but once loosened they come right out.

That was the hardest part of replacing the starter contacts.
