I have the 2004 truck in my signature and recently bought a 2005 to replace it. The 2005 has the cd-changer (RBQ) radio and Infiniti sound system; as best as I can find, it's practically impossible to integrate an iPod to this unit and I want to be able to plug my iPod in without going to FM modulators (everyone I've had before left something to be desired in the way of sound quality).

On to my question - my 04 has the single CD with changer controls that I added the USA Spec iPod interface to years ago and the sound is pretty good. I am wondering if it's possible with the Infiniti system in the new truck and the standard speakers in the other to just swap the two head units without affecting the quality of the sound system in either. Any help would be greatly appreciated with figuring this out as I am putting the old truck up for sale soon and if I am going to swap out radios, I will need to do it soon.

Thanks!

I've been struggling with the same issues. The RB1 and RB4 units are Navigation radios. There is no way to integrate iPod/iPhone into them because of the navigation. My solution was found with Alpine. I kept the stock unit and bought an FM Modulator interface. It's a direct connect to the antenna, so it doesn't rely on a powered transmitter plugged into the lighter/power port and broadcast to the antenna. I've only had it installed for a few days. Sound quality is surprisingly good with no hiss or drift. It's an Alpine DPR-RDS1 FM Radio Interface for iPod and iPhone. Goes for about a hundred bucks. Directly plugs into the iPod/iPhone and transmits song info via RDS for display on your radio screen.

If your 05 has the Infinity 6-speaker system and you 04 doesn't, I would be inclined say you will have issues with the swap due to their configuration. You may want to contact Crutchfield or maybe your local Dodge dealer for their input.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate the recommendation on the Alpine unit. I looked it up and it seems to get great reviews. Can't wait to get it installed. Thanks again!

My pleasure! With the Alpine you'll need adapters for the antenna connection (one for the radio and another for the OEM antenna cable). Dodge uses a non-standard connector (at least on the RB4). Worth looking into!
