I'm hoping someone can help me... I was pulling my 15k 5'r home from the desert... made a left turn onto the highway and stepped down fairly hard to get up to speed in traffic, at 34lbs of boost my wife and I heard a loud hissing sound then a very loud boom form the engine compartment... boost dropped to 0 and the truck lost power. We pulled over and i inspected everything, it all looked normal. My first thought was a blown intercooler hose, but they look fine. Limped the truck to the rest stop 2 miles down, called a friend to pull the trailer home and limped the truck in. We both looked at it at home and can find nothing out of the ordinary. The truck is an 05 3500, auto 4WD. I have the Edge attitude/juice module in it, straight pipe, and AFE intake. I will be taking it to the dealer tomorrow... hoping someone might have an idea tonight.

If it was me, i would be out there tonight removing as many mods as possible. Why chance on the dealer giving you a bill if they void the warranty. Just my opinion

Good luck

I took the edge box off, left the AFE intake... didn't figure they'd give me to much grief about that. I was thinking maybe the intercooler, but we couldn't see anything wrong with it. I forgot to mention, when I drove it home empty above 2000rpm there was a loud rushing air sound from the passenger side dash area.

Sounds like something popped off or split. Does it sound like compressed air escaping or exhaust coming out of a cracked manifold :( You have my curisoity way up now.

It sounds like compressed air as the turbo tries to build boost... but there's no pressure reading on the gauge... tried the soapy water yesterday, everywhere but the intercooler... I'll try that this morning before I take it in

No question, you've got a blown boot somewhere! Maybe it blew a hole on the bottom side of the boot so you can't see it from above?

Ok, it's official... the dealer called me the first time to let me know that the code stored was for a low air flow condition, and they determined that the air filter was dirty(an AFE that is on about 6000 miles since last cleaning... looks dirty... somewhat). So, they cleaned the air filter and that fixed it, the tech was on the test drive when the service advisor called. Then he called back to let me know the check engine light came back on and the same code was there, and the tech said there was no power when driving... SUPRISE! He then told me they found a crack in the intercooler... so they're going to replace it tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for the help and opinions! I am wondering now tho... do I need to think about an intercooler upgrade, or was it just a bad part at 16K miles?

I would be asking them where the crack was found. If you have the plastic tanks on the cooler & thats where the problem was found, ask them if you are going to get a new metal tank cooler.

If mine ever goes I wouldn't settle for another plastic tank cooler. I've read that the metal ones have been on back order & one member got an 03 replacement. Maybe you could get a Banks cooler & have them instal under warrenty less the difference in $$$ for the better cooler.
