My 99 has been hard starting for about 6 month now went to leave the house LP runs but truck wont fire. Any help will be great just to let you know I am not getting a check engine light or anything like that LP was replaced in July fuel filter was replaced in September and only has 3,000 miles on it.

The lift pump could still be bad.

Even thought it's running it may not be building any pressure. You could prob. check for flow @ the water drain valve on the fuel filter housing.

Also, check codes by cycling the key off/on 3 times without starting. codes will show in odo window. Several codes won't set a check engine light.

good luck

You need to make sure you have fuel pressure. Can you get a gauge on it.

Sounds like you might have air getting in somewhere. Check all lines and fittings for any thing that appears to be wet. Some times a fuel leak will not leak alot of fuel, but only wet the area. Your statement of 6 months of hard starting is what makes me think its a air leak.

The rotor in the pump is connected to the motor via a small, plastic hub. My 2nd pump was "running" just fine, but the rotor wasnt turning, and no fuel was pumping because the hub broke. That pump was built in 01 i think. . they may be different by now. I herd that type of failure wasnt all that uncommon.

Thanks for all the help I got the truck running. I think I had a air leak or the ECM needed reset? I checked for flow to the pump and the volume out of the LP I had 50 oz in one pump cycle is that good I think so. I also took th battery cables for about 1/2 hour then hooked them back up. I put every thing back together, cranked it acouple of times and it started ran it for a couple of minutes shut it off for a 1/2 hour and it started back up like brand new. Its never started better I did tighten all the banjo fittings. I thank all of you for you help.

Thanks again

Matt

Keep a eye on it. If it starts hard after sitting all night then you still have a fuel leak (air leak). When you park is the nose up hill? If so and the problem continues put the nose down hill. This has helped me in the past until I could get it fixed ;)
