I have a friend that has a 99'f-150 that has about 90,000 miles on it and is starting to get bad mileage and some other problems, also has already had a new transmission put in not to long ago under normal maintance. He's getting worried about wearing his truck out well after the warranty goes and he owe's $16,000 on it. So he's wanting to trade it in and getting a diesel, I told him that would be the best thing for him as much driving as he doe's. So he starts looking at the "ford strokes" tests drives a 2000 F-350 4x4 auto, then later goes out and drives a 97' Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 auto. I came over too his house and we get to talking one day and I asked him what he's decided to get for his next truck and he said that he wasn't sure. I told him how much cheaper the cummins is to maintain over the power stroke, how easy it is to work on if you need to, how easy it is to get power out of it, and how long it lasts before an overhaul. I gave him the key's to my truck and we went for a spin. He was very Impressed with the power that was on tap (though my truck is a 94' with 175,000 miles, with track bar slopp and bump steer and the lower RF shock bushing had slopp in it, making a thumping noise on the dirt road ) he mentioned just idling around at 20 mph the motor it was only turning 1000rpm's, and my truck rode better than his half ton. We got back to the house and I opened the hood and showed him where everything was. He told me that he wants buy to buy a Dodge Diesel next weekend. I said now your talkin. I wasn't trying to lead him on or anything, just showin him what works. :D

right on man

Take it from me. I'm around both. As far as maintenence and reliability C. T. D. rules :) . I work the p#ss out of my rig and it's always asking for more. Doug:D
