If I were making the choice, I would go with the Durango over the Grand Cherokee. My wife and I are in the process of buying another SUV, and we both like the Durango very much. The Durango is considerably bigger inside that the GC. Plus, it seems to have a very good overall feel compaired to the other new SUV's that we have looked at. I believe that you are also going to be several thousand less with the Dodge from the comparisons we have done so far.

For what it's worth, we currently have a 1996 V8 Grand Cherokee with a little over 108K on it. It obviously is 8yrs old, so I can't complain too much. But, I wouldn't buy another one. It hasn't been exactly trouble free for us.

Good luck with you choice...

We traded our 2000 durango in on a 2004 Hemi 1500 CC.

We had no trouble at all out of our durango (had a 5. 9 in it). It went back to the dearler only 1 time in 4 years to replace a sensor. we traded it in with 103,000 trouble free miles.

But the new 1500 Hemi is REALLY fun to drive. We put a Magnaflow exhaust and 20 inch rims and I like driving it as much as my CTD. I will eventually put a bigger air intake and chip it.

I have a Hemi Durango AWD/4x4 with the 5speed transmission. It rides really good.

Its quick when it needs to be, thanks to 3:92 final ratio, I did not know it had when I got it. You might say its real quick from 10mph up. The traction control works great. 9000lb+ tow package, thats why the rear is there.

Mileage is well, could be better with a differant final ratio, down around 3:43 or so. At 70mph with 11,400 miles on it, it averages about 17 on the hwy. Thats running 2300 rpms. If you can keep it under 2000 its does much better and if you run at 55-65mph like in VA and some other states you'll see 19. 5 to 20. Around town 14mpg. If you let it idle or you step on it, you can watch the average fuel mileage drop on the computer.

If you get one, take it for a ride, a long ride. Mine never got better mileage until a took it for a 2000 miles excursion.

Things that will help mileage, electric fans, higher final ratio and less foot. Still trying to talk someone into making a box that would reduce the HP. It does not have the 8cylinder to 4 cylinder reduction program. I wish it did.

Other than that its great.

Just posted a pic. Last one in gallery.

Were getting around 15 or so. My wife is only 4 miles from her job and we have not gone on a road trip in it yet. It would probobly be better if my wife didnt like hearing the glasspacks rack off.
