I've been lusting after a reasonably priced convertable. Got to thinking about a mid to late 80's vett as a cheap, comfortable, possibility the otherday, but it ain't Mopar.

Then it hit me, buy a vett, upgrade the engine to a late Hemi.

Anyone know of this being done, any sites with info?

Thanks

And the C4 vette is prone to eating wheel bearings. My friend did his earlier last year, did 1 track day and poped his motor, got it back together this last summer and used it to commute to work. After 3 months all 4 WB had to be replaced again(at $250 a pop, or $500 of you do GM parts).

The big block chevy is a great motor, no doubt.

What motor was outlawed in NHRA because it made more poer? The HEMI!!!! What motor is thew base for the top fuel cars still to this day.

Your argument will include the fact that those top fuel cars have no parts anymore that are bought from Mopar. This is correct. But the guys winning with the Big block are using everything aftermarket too!!!

The Hemi is a tall deck motor that the bow tie boys wish they had access too. With long rods.

Many argue the rod length topic but they always use the longest rod available for high RPM motors.

The hemi heads-stock out flow the best bow tie heads too.

For the Chebby boy's, they do have an option. At least stock, I have no idea on the aftermarket as I have strayed away from the hot rod/race scene.

Chevrolet did have a tall deck big block. You just had to get it from a truck, and not a pick-em-up truck. In fact, I think I still have a tall deck block sitting around somewhere.

I think the last time I saw it was on a drag that my dad uses to smooth his drive way as a weight. :-laf

The truck blocks had a deck height of 10. 2 inches. The hemi and 440 were 10. 7

This allows for a longer rod.

Longer rods reduce side loading of the cylinder walls, slow piston acceleration from TDC, which extracts more energy from the fuel.

On a short rod motor, the piston can actually outrun the flame travel!!!

The chevy big block is stout though, and a good motor.

Looking back at history, the Hemi came out with a good chamber and ports at the onset. Look at all the combustion chambers and ports the big chevy has!!!

I would personally wait for the 2009 Dodge Challenger. Turn the key and go, no headaches. Hey in 20 to 30 years I sure it will be worth some $$$
