Thanks, TDR Staff

There' an embarrassed ram owner....

Is it Fur or Far?

Ok, I know I have said that Herb Chambers Dodge in Danvers MA really s%^ks, but this really shows it. A friend of mine was looking at buying a 01 Ram sport, so she asked me to take a look at it with her. I warned her about Herb Chambers, but they were the only ones that had what she wanted. Well, The sales "kid", all of about 19, was a complete A$# hole. He didn't even talk to her, even though I told him 3 times that she was the one buying the truck. THEN he tells me that this is too much truck for her. She was about ready to slap this little kid around, She expressed her displeasure with his attitude. At this point I asked her if she believed me that this place was a good site for nuclear testing.

Well, in the end, she ordered the truck from where I got mine... 210 miles away in New YorK. For 50 clams above dealer invoice.

A good site for nuclear testing, hahahaha, that's funny ! I hope they remember Bob Allen in Danville, KY if they got enough bombs to go around !

If she really wants that truck and the other deal doesn't work you might trying a dealership you would trust (I'm from MA VeeTen, and without naming names I know what you mean), they might be able to arrange a trade or even 'buy' the truck from "HC" (Hell's Carlot??;) - after all they're gonna make invoice and commission anyway. A larger friendlier dealership might view gaining a customer well worth it. Getting my truck required sending a sales rep and mechanic to Vermont to get it (ya like that was tough??) but nobody was complaining!! Too much truck for her - Oh that's rich!! I suppose I should tell my housemate a 150 foot vessel is 'too much boat' for her Captaincy - I think NOT!!!

Fun with sales people at dealerships reminds me of a trip to a certain dealer when I was ready to order my 1994 Ram. A "Larry Lounge Lizard" type with the gold chain, unbuttoned shirt, a permanent leer, and slicked hair intercepted Sue and me in the lot. :p Sue's face says Strike 1! While Sue and I were quizzing him about specs and options, he turns to me and asks if the truck is for me or for her. :p Oops - Strike 2! I tell him the truck is for both of us, and Sue drives my other truck just fine - thank you.

Lizard offers to give us a ride in the 4X4 diesel 5 speed they have. I hop in driver side, Sue climbs in the passenger side in her denim mini skirt, and Lizard ogles Sue before he climbs in beside her.

So the three of us go for a drive, with Lizard talking around Sue to tell me about the truck. Sue takes every chance she can get to ask technical questions that he can't answer because he really prefers to sell fast cars and is not very knowledgeable about pickups. I ease down the main strip and then take the side road toward I81 where there is a steep on ramp with a very short merge lane. At the bottom of the ramp I punch the throttle in 2nd gear, run the 5 speed through the gears, top the ramp in OD at a little over 70 mph, and keep the foot down until 80 mph - Lizard had gone quiet back on the ramp. A few miles later (at the next exit on the other side of town) Lizard has his vocal cords working again, I tap the brakes to release the cruise and bail off the interstate.

On the shoulder of the side road I hop out, Sue hops out, I hop in, and Sue gets behind the wheel. Lizard starts telling Sue how to use the clutch. Strike three - you're out! While he is talking, Sue winds the motor up to 1500 and dumps the clutch in 2nd gear (leaving two rooster tails of gravel spewing behind us). As we hit the pavement, Sue power shifts into 3rd (chirping the tires), quickly hits 4th, and smiles sweetly at our passenger. He is quiet and has a death grip on the door.

Back on the main strip - Sue is working through the traffic lights, I am watching her skirt ride up, and Lizard is looking a little flushed. We get back to the dealership and while Sue idles through the lot in 3rd, Lizard says to just park the truck in front of the main door. I tell Sue to put it back where we got it - which she does perfectly. At that point the poor guy was just too flustered to go into his usual spiel, so we thank him and head for home - with Sue grinning all the way. The best part is that I got a big thank you from Sue for doing the swap in the middle of the test drive! :D

I wonder if Lizard ever got over a woman wheeling that diesel truck around with such panache.

Dave

Thanks for the story, Your Sue, sure sounds like my wife Judy, she's 5'10" tall and mighty good looking, and as tough as Wood Pecker Lips. She can drive any thing with wheels and gears and ride any thing with hair on it. Pulling our 40 foot gooseneck flat bed loaded with hay or our 6 horse Sundowner she has been known to be quite intimadating to some of the young Cowboy Neandethals around here, not to mention some of the older ones that cant back a load, But I love it.

Fritz, taht was a great story. The funny thing is that the woman (Tiffany) who I went to the stealership with, drives a haz-waste rig daily. Oh yeah, the salesman has called ME twice since. Some people will never get it... .

tjlaffite,

You have me beat, Sue is only 5'9". :D

Sue (and probably Judy)

- Knows how drives almost any tractor or truck

- Can hitch a trailer

- Swings a mean framing hammer

- Drives T-posts

- Mixes concrete (by hand with a shovel and hoe)

- Cuts wood

- Moves rocks

- Shoots better than I do

 Love those Amazons! Any they look especially fine when you get them cleaned up and in a dress!

VeeTenJeff,

Unfortunately, many men have never crossed paths with a strong, independent woman and these men don't understand what a good woman is capable of doing or how to interact with them. With the number of women buying pickups, and the increasing numbers of women going for diesel pickups, these salesmen need to learn to take women seriously.

Well, this thread has wandered off topic, but I don't think many people are reading it anyway!

Dave

Yes, but they are very different. My brother in-law thought he was getting a similar version, but I already had the pick of the litter. :D

The sister now wants nothing to do with the tractors or trucks - she might chip a nail and mess up her hair. IMO, in her best outfit she still doesn't look as good as Sue at her worst.

Good ones are hard to find. ;)

Dave

Hey Mactruck, ya know, they have come a long way with cloning.....

Herb Chambers had the EXACT same truck as Nicole, except $6K more expensive, and they would not budge on the price.

dave, we deal with floyd dodge in galax. the salesmen arent that great, and the facilities dont match shelor or the rest of the bigboys in the valley, but the service dept [willy and the boys] is the best. they take care of all of our 3500 work trucks with honesty and integrity. its worth it to pay a little more for a vehicle to know that you will be taken care of after the sale. ;)

Well howdy neighbor! I'll add Floyd Dodge to the dealership survey - no one had reported anything about them.

There aren't many of us in this end of the state. Maybe we can meet on the BR parkway some weekend for a picnic.
