Here is something I learned today

i went to change my cabin filter today on my 2012 Laramie 6.7... dropped the glove box... and... NO FILTER insert... called the dealer... they checked the vin.. and evidently there was a “ low air flow” comment on the build... no filter... so I had the filter and did insert it above the airflow box..no difference in the A/C airflow... so I think I will leave it in..

13-16 or maybe 17, didn't even come with one.
Bought the parts to install one in my truck but never put it in.
So far, 6.5 years and 595K miles and HVAC still works great.

Mine didn't come with one either. I chose to install one of these instead. Putting a filter at the beginning of the system just made more sense than half way thru it.

I’m put those on my ‘97 and ‘99. While they did work good, they both cracked after about a year of use. Maybe the cold weather, I don’t know.

The one I put on my 05 didn't even make it 30 days and it was cracked and loose, I wasn't impressed.

Mines been on 4 years no issues. I must of got the only good one
