Driving down the road yesterday and my fan dropped from moderate output to low at the 4th click over, just before high. I thought, oh no my fan went out but it didn't. works on click 2,3,5(high) but 4th click drops lower in output than three. What? My thoughts are that my switch is out, not the fan that is likely difficult to get to. Can anyone explain this?

I think there is a resistor in this circuit, and if I had to guess, I'd say that is likely the place you should look. The switch could be tested with resistance on a standard multi-meter. Good Luck.

My parents dodge van did the same thing, I had to replace the resistor behind the glovebox. I'm not sure where it is on the dodge truck but I would be willing to bet it is in the same place.

There is a resistor pack in the air stream next to the fan, 2 screws pulls it out I believe. They aren't very expensive, this is the most likely reason
