My Father in law has a 2003 w/48re, it does not want to shift into overdrive until you let up on the throttle or until you hit about 45mph. He has 20k on the truck and dodge has already rebuilt the transmission, just got it back and is doing the same thing. Is this normal?

Any info would be appreciated.

I think your o.k.

Hey, I'm pretty new to this site but have had my truck long enough to know the shifting of the 48RE. Though not a big fan of the O/D operation my truck behaves very similar. If you stay in 1 or 2 on the shifter mine always engages O/D torque lock when you let up on the throttle. When in "D" it only engages after you reach 50 MPH. Then it holds torque lock until it drops below 45. 4th gear stays in though (no O/D) if you continue coasting almost to 20MPH before it releases or you accelerate rapidly it will slip down to 3rd or 2nd.

Hope this helps.
