At highway speeds with my foot on the accelerator the motor power will drop off and pick up before I can check the gauges. If cruise is set when the motor power drops off, the cruise does not power off but it will need to be reset. This happens about 3 or 4 times a YEAR. It happened 3 times in an hour on a 75 to 80 degree day on flat land at 65 mph on the way to South Dakota and that was it. Weather was clear and dry. No warning before and nothing after. Power drops for a split second and then comes back. I took it to Dodge and they changed the program - still failed, took it back to another shop and they had no clue. This has happened from day one, 35,000 miles now - with and without TST power max, all other systems seem fine. 2001 - 3500 - HO - 6 speed. Any help would be appreciated.

Let me know if you learn anything. I have 99 2500 with an automatic and I have had the same condition since day one. Dealers have not diagnosed a problem. It happens so quick, I don't have time to look at my fuel pressure gauge to see if there is a drop in pressure. It happen before and after my lift pump failure. Mine is the same, three or four times per year, random conditions, sometimes towing sometimes not. I even keep a log of conditions when it happens and there is no common condition.

Sounds like a bad electrical or component connection - check plugs and clean ground connections - also, the TPS (throttle position sensor) can cause what you describe if it is dirty or failing...

I've been having this problem too since I installed my EDGE EZ so today I unhooked the MAP sensor part of it and hooked up the factory plug and haven't had it happen since. But man can you tell the difference in power!!!!

I have had a problem where my cruise would kick out once in a while, happened like 4 times one day and then didn't do it again until a couple months later, and then a few weeks later. No codes no indications nothing. Then the other day without warning my check engine light came on. I checked the codes and had P0340 and P1690. These are basically the Cam position sensor and fuel pump position sensor mismatch. Then yesterday my tach started to die once in a while, then this morning I noticed on my way to Cummins Northeast that when the tach was acting up the cruise would kick out. So here is my assumption, the CPS was acting up all this time but not to the point where I could see anything and that was making my cruise quit. I picked up a new sensor this morning and will put it in this afternoon and see if my problems go away, but dollars to doughnuts I'll bet this was the problem with the cruise. The older trucks have a crank position sensor versus a cam position sensor, and if you go to Cummins brink your engine serial number because the one here won't even look up part numbers without it. By the way it was $45 at Cummins tax and everything and Dodge wanted $68 before tax

I have a 2000 Automatic. MY truck does the same thing. It has been doing this for about 2 months. Some days it does it all day and other days nothing. My check engine light came on about 3 weeks ago. Took the truck into the dealer. They changed the cam position sensor. It run fine for about 3 days and then started loosing power again. MY fuel pressure was ok when it would loose power. Took it to the dealer this morning and they said that it was more than likely the throttle position sensor going bad. They gave me a price of around 400. 00 for the sensor. Does anyone know where I can find it any cheaper?

I was having the same problem Untill i Disconnected the EZ chip. I have been running the EZ for 1. 5 Yrs without a problem. Just started acting up intermittently a couple weeks ago. I was also getting some Timing error codes but no Engine Lite. I had the codes reset and have sent the EZ in for Warranty. I think the Codes were coming from the EZ and the intermittant engine stumble was from bad wiring connections asociated with the chip. The new EZ will not have adaptor plugs.
