4bt performance

was day dreamin' the other day.....

I keep hearing from people not to use a 4bt, because they have too much vibration.

I have only talked to 2 people who have done a 4bt conversion and they are very happy with the engine. I would love some feedback either pro or con.

Thanks guys,

Tim

vibration

I think the word is buzzy. The vibration is not a problem untill about 1500rpm my drive train rattles as you accelerate through. 84 chevy dually 4sp 3. 73 rear.

Some engines may have counter rotating shafts used to counter vibration. This was an option in the 4bt because of the vibration.

Does your Chevy Dually's 4bt have the counterbalance shafts? and does the "buzz continue or does it phase out. Thanks,

Tim

buzzing

the buzzing I refer to is that I run at 3000rpm on the highway and any 4 cyl has a bit of a buzz. It sounds similar to my 51 mack which has a 855ci 6 cummins running at 2000 rpm. My engine has countershafts. The noise is not bothersome but thought you may want to be informed. I posted under 4bt performance which will tell you of the performance to expect. phil

Thanks for the information that is exactly what I am looking for. I take it that you would not "advise" someone not to buy a 4bt.

Thanks again

Tim

4bt future

I will use this engine in another project when it is time to sell the truck. However I will keep the empty weight to 3500lbs and use a 5sp trans.
