Hi guys, as most of you know I'm industrial grade doofus when it comes to electrical things...

Do any of you know what/were/how to disable the daytime headlight operation???

Were to look, what color wire, will it disable other functions too, etc... ????

thanks ... bob... .

On the pigtail connected to the DLR module is a 20 gauge White wire with Orange strip, this is the speedo sensor wire. If you cut that then the DLR will think the truck is sitting still and wont turn on the lights, in theory any way. I would unplug the speedo harness at the transmission, to make sure the light won't come on when you are moving with the headlight switch in the off position. If everything else still works (speedo / cruise control won't) then cut the white/orange wire to disable the DLR and plug the transmission harness back up and check once more. Should work :)

PS Check for the high beams as well.

The control box is on the passenger side inner fender right by the windshield washer resevoir. You might try unplugging it 1st. Also, by law are you required to have it?

You could try that, but from the schematics, it looks you'll lose the headlights completely.

you could just take the DRL out of my truck, it had failed long ago, but I still have all headlights ( hi & low) working fine, so I have not fixed it.

if cutting the speed sensor wire works, you might put a switch in line, then you could turn it on for inspection if required. In NB , the annual MVI requires it, unless the tech forgets to look.

good luck

second thought, on a manual transmission truck do the DRLs work this way ( via a speed sensor signnal ) or are they simply activated when the engine is running and the park brake is released ?????

The 93 FSM only shows one schematic & it doesn't differentiate between auto/manual trucks. There are no wires that go to the parking brake.

hey bob,

for a variety of reasons, i hate having the lights come on everytime i turn the key. besides, i love the look of the truck with just the ambers glowing! whether it's legal is a whole different ball game.

it's super simple on our canuck trucks. just find the box right below the windshield washer fluid holder and unplug! no worries, it only disables the daytime running function. the lights work as expected when you use the standard switch.

cheers,

roy

SWEET... !!!!

Thanks guys... . OH, you'd think I'd know to do a search on this site first wouldn't you.....  ... . in my case that's a 5 RWHP penalty.
