its been several years sinse Ive been on here

I really enjoyed this forum back then & Im sure I will now

I was wondering if any of you have seen any valve stem seal problems as Ive allways had huge clouds of smoke after idling for warm up

it isent the turbo as I have 93 one with a 12cm2 housing fresh as a daisy built by a reputable machinist Evergreen Turbo Co. OEM and High Performance Turbocharges

& it was the same with the old one

also random poor idling with a new set of 40hp injectors even

it will idle perfect & smoothe, all firing evenly like a watch

then you come to the next stop & its almost like its missing on one cylinder even holding the RPMs up a few hundred over idle will result in the shifter shaking from side to side although under a load it feels fine

it also sounds like one of the delivery valves gets a bit louder when its missing at idle & remained the same even when I replaced the bits on the inside & spring

I thought the 2 were related like oil dripping down the stem of an intake valve & causing the uneven idle

the warm up solonoid (or whatever) on the pump is also bad & Im wondering if it could be allowing leakbye ro something which would seperate the two symptoms, smoking & poor idle

definatly burning oil

so thanks for reading & any help would be appreciated

Ive been in the auto repair trade 26 years now but am just a little stumped on this one

I will try to be of help when I can

take care

Well theres a name I haven't seen for a while. How are you doing??

Does the pump have a steady ticking noise to it????

hey there man :)
things are freaking tight man... ... bareley making it these days :-(
I have a loving family, a roof over my head & good food to eat so it isent as bad as it has been in the past :)
how are you? working I hope.....
yeah there is a steady ticking
using a stethascope I isolated it to one of the delivery valves
the noise seems worse when the miss is worse & almost non existant when its smoothe
I changed the guts of that delivery valve with no change
do you think its just a pump problem?
take care
JAK

You might have a broken return spring in the pump. That would give a ticking sound. You know how sound can travel in a drive train. You repaired the delivery valve but still have the noise.

My bet is a broken return spring in the pump. The times you get the miss the spring has moved to another position and is not supplying tension where needed.

I am doing fine Jak. I am currently driving a yard mule. I was working in maint at the place. Then early last year I had to have a pacemaker put in.

That took out my welding skills plus they had an area with high magnetic fields I can't go into. So to be safe they put me into the yard truck. I can't complain it is still a job. In this area there aren't many.

wow philip
sounds like allot has happened sinse we typed before
I remember that you did factory machinery or something

are you talking about the plunger spring?
Ii figure thats the only one that would be noisy
I got some parts from PSI & they were really cool
do you have a good supplier for pump parts?

take care
JAK

About the only place you could get those parts would be a bosch repair shop. The only one I have delt with is Schieds.

I have known for 25 years I was going to need a pacemaker. So it wasn't a suprise. I just never thought about it taking me out of the maint field. Thats the bummer of it all. I enjoyed factory maint.

Oh Philip
after building 2 getrags I went with a NV4500 & thats much better
I put it back to a flatbed & got rid of the service bed I made the sideboards from steel & they double as ramps so I can get my tractor onto the back
I have hauled cars for scrap with it
Ive had the truck up to 17000 lbs on the scale with scrap thats rite 17000 lbs
this thing is a work horse for sure
I need to get another model 70 diff though, I welded this one up good so I could get up my driveway but it eats tires in the back... ...
& I dont have enough for a locker now I Need tires across the back

have a great evening
take care
