2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Hi Beam light problem

When I leave the high beams on for a while the head lights go out totally. If I drive with low beams on there are fine. This is really starting to annoy me and I am fixing to make some long trips to Texas and Oregon. is there a relay that controls lights or is it all in the multifunction switch in the steering collum.

I think it's the switch. I had one replaced, and that is failing now too. .

If anyone has put one it, would love to know how hard it is, please chime in.
