After many many nv4500's in my 99, I got tired of fixing it. So I went down the road and bought an 06 quad srw 3500 4x4. So far (116 miles) I love it. One problem its no loud rattle  like my 99. Anyway my only question is who has the best box or programmer for mpg increase? That and an air filter are the only mods I really have planned. I run a ton miles so mpg's are very important. Thanks and hello to all!! Karl

You will soon get very used to the quiet engine. Then you will wonder how you lived with that noisy old beast for so long :)

I am considering the Van Aaken box which alters only timing and duration rather than rail pressure. Not sure if there is one for the new trucks yet though.

I'm waiting for TST get there box out for my 06. I still have my 99 and WOW is right. It's funny but I don't really notice a huge difference (other than noise) when I go from the 99 to the 06. However, when I go from the 06 to the 99 it makes the 99 feel like a real POS! I still love the old girl though. .

ooooooo. I still love the rattle! How many miles did your 99 last you?? Are you going to list your truck on the Classified ads on TDR?

CTD,

If you were asking me, I'm not selling it. I use the 99 for work and 06 for, well. not work.

Oh the 99 has 275,000 miles on it

There have just been to many other haulers I pull with that have had early problems with there g-56 6 speeds, so I bought the auto. As far as my 99 yes its for sale, 13' new sb con-o just installed and a new 5 speed 2 months ago. Its got 245 or so thousand on it. Still set up to pull. Anyway from looking around it seems it still may be a while to get anything as far as a programmer for an 06. I am kinda leaning toward Bully Dog. What do you guys think?? Also is that rokktech sensor a good upgrade?? Thanks Karl

Chuck Dzak in Braidwood. They got pretty close to the best deal I found, plus its always nice to support the locals if possible. Didn't have to drive 60 miles either :D . Karl

Boxes

KBalzuweit & BHolm,

Van Aaken has a 3. 1 box, which, as I understand is strictly a preasure box. Their 3. 2 is a duration, only, box with some boost fooling. If you can wait 1 or 2 months, they are supposed to have a 3. 3 which will be duration, timing with a small amount of preasure. Sounds like it will be similar to the Edge Juice/Attitude used in the 3rd Gen. 305/555, '03-'04's. The 3. 2 is in-cab adjustable having a zero, 130 HP & something in between, 65-70 HP, probably.

I've read, any number of times, that some people are a little afraid of the preasure, only boxes. Especially, the high preasure boxes that can do some damage to the HPCR and errode the injectors.

There is a pretty good article in Issue 48, of the TDR, by Doug Leno & Joe Donnelly regarding boxes & the parameters you should stay within so as not to harm your fuel delivery system.

If you get a box with timing programmed into it, you should not need to do the Rocktek or Tone Ring Mod's, as I understand.

If you don't have guages, yet, The Edge Juice/Attitude should provide you with duration & timing on the new trucks plus the Attitude gives you the guages with a lot of control over the box.

Since I already have guages, I'm going to wait to see what the new Van Aaken C-3. 3 looks like.

Doing it right, the first-time, isn't so easy. Lots of choices out there.
