In reading the thread about troubles with 3rd gen trucks, I noticed a couple people mention their high beam indicators flickering slightly when lights are on in low beam mode. My truck also does this. Mine also flickers with all the lights off though. Is this problem isolated to 05's or has it occured in earlier years? Has anyone actually had this checked by dealer? I will get mine checked before it is out of warranty, but right now its no big deal, just a minor annoyance.

Now that I have seen it mentioned I'm thinking I may have it as well. I almost thought I've seen it flickering with the low beams on but have written it off to being tired or just glancing at it up until I saw somebody else noticed it. Hopefully it's just an easy fix.

Mine does it to, with the low beams on. When you put the gauge lights on dim you can notice it alot more. Just try to keep your eyes on the road most of the time rather than on the high beam indicator flickering. :p

My 04 has done it since new. Too afraid of the people that had negative results getting reflashes done, so I haven't taken it in. Got 52k on it and no problems.

Maybe it's not a defect but a "feature. " ;)

Seriously tho -- I agree with Jengle above. I honestly don't want some dealer pulling apart the dash on an otherwise perfectly running truck because the highbeam light flickers ever so slightly at night. Why? Because where I live, they'll break more than they'll fix.

What would be nice is an explanation from DC as to why it does it on the 2005's (and maybe some 2004's too). We all know that will never come. They coach the service departments to practice "Deny Deny Deny" or "Feign Ignorance" or "That's normal" strategies in regular succession leaving the poor customer to wonder if they're really nutz.

Honestly -- it was enough for me to read that you observant guys are seeing what I was seeing and I wasn't going crazy. :-laf Stop laughing. Regardless, I ain't taking it in to the dealer unless DC says there's something wrong and has told the dealer exactly want to do. With that, where I live, they'll probably still screw it up. They need all the help they can get.

I mentioned it to my selling dealer service mgr. right after I bought the truck. He said he had had a couple of people mention it and that he thinks it may be the "combination switch"? I don't think it is of any big concern, but I also had thought it was my eyes playing tricks on me. I turn my dash lights up a little brighter and can't see it flicker at all then. Funny thing is my wife's 05 doesn't do it and the production dates are 2 weeks apart. Early and late October of 04.

My 2005 also does this. It's not just the high-beam light,

but also the airbag and seat belt lights flicker.

(Maybe it's just one of the bulbs lighting and the other

nearby cavities also get the light, I'm not sure).

Like others I see here, I have not yet mentioned it to the

dealer for fear of having a non-solution and creating other

issues after having ECM re-flashed and / or dash torn apart, etc.

I don't regard this as a "minor" inconvenience. I regard it

as a significant annoyance and safety hazard. While driving

at night my eyes are diverted off the road while I try and

focus on red and blue flashing dash lights I catch in my peripheral vision.

We absolutely LOVE our 2005 RAM in all other aspects, but this

one item is really a pain and I hope someone identifies a solution !

Mine has done it since new also, Could it be happening all the time or we just see it at night because the light is dime enough to see it?

It bugged me to death the first couple of months that I had it becasue I didn't know what was flashing. Once I figured out that it was the high beam indicator and the lights weren't flashing I ignore it now.
