1st oil sample taken at 16000 miles copper was 358 ppm. That seems high to me . what is a standard for ppm's . potassium at 36 ppm. Are these numbers normal for a new engine ? the oil sample was a shell tells T . It was replaced with Shellis T-4 . Have looked at a oil from Growmark- ESP gold 15W40. the only thing it's hard to beat 10.00$ per gal. for T-4. Any help would be excepted- Hello John Martin. respectfully Steve Fiedler

I had a sample jump from copper 1 ppm to 293. However, potassium stayed at 1 ppm. I drained the oil and resampled at 4400 miles and it was still at 57. I replaced the engine oil cooler. I haven't resampled since then. As an added note I sent a sample in from the first oil change from my wife's new Hemi Ram. Copper was 233. It will be about a year when it is due an oil change. The high potassium could be either a coolant leak or road chemicals if you have been driving a lot in the great white north recently. I suggest you take a sample after another 5000 miles or so because based on the Hemi sample, it could be normal for a new engine.

I cant answer any of your questions but my 2016 Ram 1500 Hemi had high copper readings when new and tapered off over time. My samples were tested by Blackstone labs. I have attached a sheet from their website which has some information on it. You might want to contact them if they are not where you received your sample for some peace of mind on what your results might mean.
