Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fuel Pressure

I now have the 370's installed and loving them. Well, except for the EGT's which are through the roof, kinda expected that. My EGT's bust 1300 rather quickly and boost is hitting 42 psi. Should I go with a 16cm housing and 4 inch exhaust or jump deep into the HX-40? Really not looking for much more power, but would like to use what is now available. Thanks, Mike

I would start with the basic air flow mods and work up from there.

1. Air intake system of some kind, BHAF, Mega Cannon, etc.

2. 4" exhaust making sure any cat gets lost

3. Timing set to 15. 5 - 16. 0 degrees will help with the EGT's

4. 16cm housing

From there if you need more relief check into the HX40 stuff. If you go to a 40 later the only parts not reused above would be the 16cm housing and the downpipe on the 4". -- If you choose to go with a PDR HX35 for example ( and not a 40 ) then nothing is lost, just drop it in keeping all existing changes.

Then there are Cams and Heads. They generally cost more and in in labor and time.

May want to look into a way to control the boost of you HX, you way off the map on it and it sure doesn't help EGT's. I'd do air mods and timind first and skip the housing and put the money towards a turbo.

I have all that exept the hx40 and I still hit 1500+* and 42psi boost... . I think the answer would be turbo... ...

Mike-

The 16cm housing didn't do much for me. It actually increase egt at highway cruising speed (no load & below 10 lbs of boost). But it did help some at wot. Instead of taking 3 seconds to reach 1400f, it took 4 seconds. Max Boost dropped maybe 2lbs?

Sounds more and more like a PDR40 and 4" exhaust is the ticket. Now to figure out how to slide it past the wife! I could say the H*&^ with it and go straight to twins!

From experience while the HX-40 helped a lot before the 370's when I just had the 300's in. When I put the 370's in and the HX-40 along with some other modifications. Your EGT's are still going to be outrageous. That is just part of the beast of the 12 valve. To keep it cool go for the Head, cam and HX-40. I got the 40 and am looking for the rest. Or money for the rest. Boost is still going to be way up there with the Hx-40. I can smack my 40 pd gauge wher I have the turbo wastegated so fast it's funny.

Turning the allen screw out will lower boost, turning it in will increase boost.

Great post, I'm considering puttin 370s in, but want to be able to use the power. I'm not sure my clutch will take it either.

Mark,

Don't get me wrong, the power is usable it's just how fast your able to pour it on. If your rolling and lay in to it the EGT's can get up there rather quick. My problem really isn't when I'm driving because I pay attention to the guages. Getting the wife to do this is another story. I usually only drive the truck when towing the boat, the wife is the daily driver. After nearly being killed in a head on by a guy that fell asleep at the wheel last summer she enjoys large amounts of steel surrounding her!

I run empty about 60% of the time, and tow my gooseneck the rest, usually with a coule Jeeps on it . I just don't want to loose any towing performance. Right now, I have to watch my pyro only when towing up 7% and above grades. I would love the extra power, but the truck still needs to be able to tow.

Call Piers and order yourself a valet switch. In valet mode you will have little worries about her needing to watch the guages.

Get the air intake, 4" exhaust, timing done, and boost set right. Then get a valet switch and go from there. You still will need to watch in full power mode, but in valet mode it should be worry free.

The valet mode is pretty nice. Bottom 1/3 part of the throttle is the same. From there up its practically pointless to press the throttle any further. -- But I have driven around for days and forgot it was even on. Then put my foot in to it and huh? Crap! In many cases I even like towing in valet mode.
