My truck does have the 12cm^2 housing on it now, but this has been something I've noticed before I changed to the 12. Compared to my other trucks, it seems to run higher temps even after idleing for a while. For example, both my Dad's pick-up and my 1-ton dump will reach 225* in a reasonable amount of time after idleing. My pick-up however will just get to 300*, and getting below that is a lot of work. All of the filters are new, and I am running a really short straight pipe. Thanks for the help.

Valve set / Timing?

If either of these are different between the two you could see higher EGT at idle. How about Idle speed? That could also raise the EGT a smidgen.

The other could be just the EGT probe itself. They are less accurate at lower temps.

Thanks Lil' Dog,

I need to check the valves, and the timing I am not sure of. The idle seems normal, but I think that the smoke screw might be jacked up too much and some one adjusted the idle down to compensate. I'll have to check this stuff when I get a chance.

Thanks again,

Russell

Late (retarded) injection timing will raise the temperatures.

Also, if you have anyting that's loading the engine down, making it work harder at idle, that would do it. A/C compressor running full time?

Just thinking out loud, here...

Funny you should say that PW

Ha ha ha, that did just happen, but I fixed the A/C always on problem and it had no effect on the EGT. I was wondering if it was the thermocouple? I am running the new Isspro EV's and figured that they would be the most accurate ones out there. I need to check timing and the valves and then I'll report my findings.

Thanks,

Russell

Sorry,

I just remembered something... . my milage has been going down too, and I wonder if these two problems relate or not. Could my lift pump be shot? Just another thought.

If mileage is also being affected, timing seems to be the culprit. Do the valve set anyway, it'll help a little anyway.
