After about 9 month of using the water/methanol boost cooler I noticed that my Boost was not getting up as high as it used to and the EGT's where getting higher. Slowly it got to the point where the Boost would not get high enough to engage the water injection. I have the start point set for 15 psi and my boost would not get over 12 or 13 even with the TST power max box turned up.

I installed the 4" turbo back exhaust thinking this may be the restriction, but only help a little with the EGT's. The boost was still low.

I can not hear any leaks in the intake, but need to know if anyone knows a good way to check this.

I installed the ATS Aurora 2000 turbo thinking that my turbo may be failing. This did not help a thing.

I now have replaced the TST power max that was a few years old with the Edge Juice Attitude. This helped a little more with the EGT's but they are still getting very high even with the box turned down.

I am running out of ideas what could be restricting the boost and causing the EGT's to be so high.

Even with the low boost it still runs good until putting the pedal down or towing, then the EGT's are sky high. I have seen 1400 deg. without towing and the fueling box set on low. And it blows a lot of black smoke.

Help!!

Doug, Get or make a Boost tester. Do you have a source of compressed air? You need about 10 to 15 psi. To make a Boost tester, go to a home supply store and get the following: a 4 inch rubber coupler from the plumbing department, a PVC "Clean Out" with a cap to fit, a low pressure gauge, and Air compressor fittings, tee, and a shut off valve. You may have to tap a 1/4 NPT hole in the Clean Out cap to hook the Compressor to. Assemble the parts so that you can hook up the boost tester to the Turbo Inlet, With the Engine OFF! and pressurize the Turbo and Intake to about 10 PSI.

This will show up any leaks in the Turbo, Intercooler, Boots and Intake. Use soap and water, and your ears to find any leaks. Usually it's a boost boot, on the Turbo side of the Intercooler. It does not take much of a leak to kill the boost, Right TTMT?

yea check the one on the right side of the intercooler at the bottom, thats where mine slid off just a lil making the symptoms exactly like your talking about. it slid back just enough to leak about half my boost and make my egts skyrocket. it came off right at the 6 o'clock position, just leavve the truck running and listen to all your boots but i would check that one first. . check your personal messages

Thanks, I am getting the parts to put together this boost leak tester. I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks,

Doug

Thanks Moose00 and LOtero, that was it. The boost leak detector showed that it had a good size leak in the output intercooler hose. Looks like it was rubbing on the body of the truck for awhile.

Much appreciated advise.
