why don't 3rd gens come with pyrometers or at least an egt defueling parameter in the ECM?
 
If I recall the 04. 5's are the same as the 05 and 06's as far as wastegated boost goes. And both my 05 and 06 hit 32 lbs. Hitting only 20-21 lbs may be a huge portion of your prolem. Like the others have said, check for leaks.
 
I would check the air horn were it connects to the manifold (intake).

It's a good posability the wastegate is stuck open a little on your turbo.

I will tell him to check that out. I was riding with him today while towing & was listening to the turbo & I noticed that the whistle seemed to change its tone while keeping same throttle on a long incline like it was shuttering. It may be the wastegate sticking, but If the wastegate in these trucks stick. . can you just loosen them up with some pb blast or will it damage the electronics? I haven't fooled with a electronic turbo before... so I'm lost. :confused:
 
I run the bdtd+ez stack in my 03. My boost will easily go to 40 then the waste gate opens. Must have some boost issues somewhere. I tow my Holiday trailer (10K loaded) plus two quads on a sled deck. I tow with the td on performance and the ez on 3. The hills have to be really big before i have to shift down. Egt's max around 1350-75, 1400 on real long pulls. You dont tow much more than me, so shifting down into 4th sounds like somethings not right.
 
Didn't I read somewhere about leaky intercoolers on 04. 5's?



The EZ should be doing the boost fooling, and the Crazy Larry should blast out 40lbs of boost easily.



That change in whistle you heard would have me concerned.



I would agree these trucks run hotter, but you definitley have a boost problem.
