my '01 3500 auto will see 1500 + degree temps once it shifts into O/D @ WOT. 1st - 3rd is usually not much more than 1250 degrees and thats at 35 -40 psi of boost(48psi max). The first round of power was FASS pump, 100 hp lightning injecters ,edge ez, hot pump and super b single, the truck would not run as hot as stated above but close. I am now running a 62/71/14 turbo, Mach 4's and a edge comp drag. The T/C is loose and the turbo spools good for its size. Question 1 is - could it be possible that the engine was assembled (from the factory) with the timing being off (cam,crank). Question 2 - is there anybody who can help me? I bought the truck new and before any mods to present never got more than 11. 5 mpg (timing???). Mileage is no longer a concern, but I am trying to piece an expensive and aggrevating puzzle together. I guess on bright side I will have a whole lot of fairly new go fast parts for sale!!!!!!!! Thanks to all ahead of time.
 
where do you live? I'm surprised you haven't melted down at those egt's! I'd find a good mod shop and get it looked at, if you live in Tx or Ks pm me and I'll give you some names.

sorry I can't help you, my shop told me to never go over 1,350 for any time at all, keep us posted, sure sounds like timing or something since your mileage has always been horrible



where's your engine temp when your egt's are that high, someone will jump in here that knows alot more than me, sorry I'm not much help
 
i totally understand the 1350 degree thing. I don't stay in it for more than 30 sec or so,and thats at about 85 mph when i reach that temp so therefore my coolant temp isn't affected. With the present mods on the truck I don't see why I'm seeing those temps. I just sent my Comp out to be upgraded and it came back with a clean bill of health. We all know the VP handles the "timing", so if there is something electronic that I'm missing let me know. I keep going back to the theory of internal timing issues and I don't know if thats possible. Thanks for the reply
 
If you think timing is off you could always pull the cover and check for yourself. There's always a possibility but i have never heard of that before.
 
After scattering my superB- a few weeks ago I had the truck pulled down far enough I should of done it then while I was waiting for my new turbo (that was going to fix the problem). So I thought I would post my issue and hope a member may have ran into this issue.
 
I've read where these trucks will run funny with the wrong key in place for the VP44. Having the gears off by a whole tooth probably wouldn't make for a good running engine at all. I don't think that's where your problem is.



Your numbers don't look far off. With 150hp sticks, a Drag Comp, and only a 62mm compressor, I think you should expect those egts at full tilt in top gear. 3k RPM in 4th at one-hundred-and-what MPH? Yeah, that'll be hot.
 
What are your cruising temps? What is your "Hot Pump" a hot rod VP?



Don't feel too bad, I can bury my 1800* pyro with my setup at WOT... But I don't do that much except on the drag or pulling track... or actually not at all right now since I broke my rear pinion last friday night pulling the sled... :(
 
At 60 mph and 2000 rpm it'll run 950-1150* and I'm running Scheids hot pump. Well I spit the head gasket this morning so I know what I'll be doing the next couple of nights. Thanks for everbodies input!!!
 
If the head is off---its a good time to O-ring, I went with AEM water/meth inj. for high temps when pulling 17k. It helped a little bit. Still have to watch the Pyro often though. ---Proflow
 
If you are still looking for a shop, Huckstorf injection in south milwaukee did the right thing for me. Or you aren't that far from shied, why not try them.
